This trip down the 18th hole at the Australian PGA championship was so much different for John Daly. Six years ago, after taking a triple-bogey 7 on the final hole in the second round, Daly threw his putter and ball into a greenside pond at the 18th and later failed to sign for a 78 on his scorecard, disqualifying himself from a tournament he would have missed the cut in anyway. Daly pulled out a driver on the 18th Thursday for only his second time on the day and flew it at least 35 yards past playing partner and 2006 U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy. From there, Daly hit a lob wedge to about 12 feet, according to the Associated Press. He pushed his birdie putt just right of the hole, leaving a near tap-in for his par and a 1-over 37. But not before one anxious moment -- Daly accidentally dropped his putter on the green, narrowly missing his unmarked ball and just saving himself a penalty. Daly finished with a 1-under 71, including a testing 12-foot downhill birdie putt on his last hole - the ninth. He'll be at least five shots off the lead following New Zealander Tim Wilkinson's early 66 before the wind picked up on the Hyatt Regency resort course. "I got off to a bad start, but I came back," Daly said. "I putted terribly but I'm happy with the way it went."

Adam Scott injured his knee in a surfing accident and has withdrawn from this week's Australian PGA championship, according to the Associated Press. Scott told tournament officials on Tuesday that he hurt his right kneecap at nearby Coolum Beach on Sunday. His manager said Scott, a longtime surfer, is expected to play in next week's Australian Open in Sydney. "He was coming out of the surf on Sunday morning and he's obviously stood in a sand depression," said Scott's manager, Justin Cohen. "He went for a body surf and was making his way through the shallow water and twisted his knee a little bit. It's a very minor, little issue with his knee and we fully expect him to be back in action and ready to go for the Aussie Open next week."

Six years after throwing his putter into a pond at the Australian PGA, John Daly is having trouble on the greens again, according to the Associated Press. Before heading off for a practice round at the Hyatt Regency resort course Tuesday, Daly said he's tried just about everything to improve on poor putting that plagued most of his play at Hong Kong and at Huntingdale in last weekend's Australian Masters, where he failed to make the cut. "I'm trying new grips, trying to get my posture up, changing the lie and loft, everything I could possibly try, and nothing feels right," said Daly, who spent nearly three hours on the practice green Monday. "It's just a matter of keep practicing and sooner or later something might click."

K.J. Choi holed an 11-foot birdie putt worth $270,000 on the 18th hole Sunday to win the 26th Skins Game with $415,000, according to the Associated Press. Stephen Ames missed a nine-footer that would have tied the hole and forced the foursome including Phil Mickelson and Rocco Mediate into a playoff. Instead, Choi's putt gave him $340,000 for Sunday's nine holes and made him the fifth international player to win the title. "I'm very proud to have won the Skins Game, the first time ever for a Korean player," said Choi, who said he watched the Skins Game and the Masters growing up in South Korea. "I'm very, very happy today."
