Kolzig not returning to Caps Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Washington Capitals goaltender Olaf Kolzig
has said that he will not be returning to the team he has spent his entire NHL
career with, according to a report on Friday.
Kolzig told the Washington Post that he was disappointed when the Capitals
acquired goaltender Cristobal Huet from the Montreal Canadiens and he was
later demoted to backup through the remainder of the regular season and the
playoffs.

Washington and helped lead the team to the Stanley Cup ... More...
Olaf Kolzig has confirmed that he has played his last game for the Capitals, according to FanNation. He also said he would like to return for a 17th NHL campaign.
Our View:The franchise drafted him back in 1989. Kolzig went 25-21-6 in 2007, with a .892 save percentage. He only had one shutout, but can still hold his own between the pipes.
Cristobal Huet, a free-agent, was tremendous down the stretch going 11-2 with a 1.63 GAA for the Capitals, and he would be open to returning to the team next season, according to the Washington Post.
Our View:Olaf Kolzig is reported to be have been very displeased with the team's acquisition of Huet at the deadline, and he hasn't had any contact with the team since the end of the playoffs. The Caps need to keep Huet in the fold, so look for them to make a strong offer, one well in excess of the $2.875 million he made last year.
Alexander Ovechkin was named a finalist for the Hart Trophy awarded each year to the league MVP.
Our View:The odds on favorite for the award, Ovechkin lead the lead in goals (65), points (112), power-play goals (22) and game-winning goals (11). He also established an all-time record for goals by a LW in a season, and given the paucity of talent on his squad he obviously was a major reason that the Caps made the playoffs.
