Tampa Bay's Boyle has hand surgery
Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Dan Boyle had successful surgery on his left wrist on Sunday.

The surgery was required after he had three tendons in his wrist completely severed when a skate fell on his wrist in the locker room on Saturday after the team's 2-1 loss to Washington.

The surgery took place at University Community Hospital and was performed by team physician Dr. Ira Guttentag and hand specialist Dr. Richard Gray. Boyle is expected to be out four-to-six weeks.

Injuries
Jeff HalpernRight knee surgery
Player Notes
Jeff Halpern, C Saturday 7/19, 8:54 AM CT
Center Jeff Halpern, who had major surgery on his right knee in June, could be out until January according to the Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Our View:Halpern tallied 42 points last season, but it appears he is a major risk coming into this season. The same article said it is possible he could return as early as the end of October. We'll keep a close eye on him.
Mike Smith, G Monday 7/14, 3:55 PM CT
Mike Smith has signed a two-year extension with the Lightning, according to TSN. VP of hockey operations Brian Lawton said, "It goes without saying that Mike has a bright future in the Lightning organization. It is important in our plan to have locked up Mike, along with Ollie Kolzig, to solidify our goaltending situation this season and beyond."

Our View:Smith went 15-19 last season with time spent between Dallas and Tampa Bay, but held a good 2.59 GAA. He won't hold solid fantasy value next season, but should provide favorable depth behind Kolzig.
Vincent Lecavalier, C Saturday 7/12, 8:44 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, we have received the official terms of the deal signed by center Vincent Lecavalier , according to Sports Ticker.

Our View:According to a report by TSN of Canada on Saturday, Lecavalier signed an 11-year contract extension worth $85 million with the Lightning, keeping him with the team through the 2019-20 season. According to the report, the 28-year-old Lecavalier will make $10 million per season over the first six years under the terms of the new deal, which goes into effect in 2009-10. His salary will dip over the duration of the deal, going from $8.5 million in 2016-17 all the way down to $1 million in the final campaign, in order to protect the Lightning from salary cap restrictions and the potential retirement of the center.
