Quenneville will not return as Avs coach
Denver, CO (Sports Network) - The Colorado Avalanche announced Friday that Joel Quenneville will not return as head coach for the 2008-09 season.

"After meeting with Joel, we mutually agreed that the best decision for both parties involved is to go separate ways," said Avalanche executive vice president and general manager Francois Giguere. "On behalf of the organization, I want to thank Joel for his years of service and wish him the best in his coaching career."

Colorado finished 44-31-7 this season, the sixth seed in the Western Confer... More...

Player Notes
Patrick Roy, G Monday 5/12, 7:41 AM CT
Patrick Roy wants to return to the NHL, this time as a coach, and reportedly has definite interest in rejoining the Avalanche, a team that he twice led to the Stanley Cup as a goalie, according to FanNation.com.

Our View:The team recently fired Joel Quenneville after three years of service, and three-time NHL coach of the year Pat Burns is being speculated as his replacement. The team is yet to contact Roy.
Peter Forsberg, C Friday 5/9, 1:08 PM CT
Joel Quenneville has been fired by the Avalanche, according to the AP. GM Francois Giguere said, "After meeting with Joel, we mutually agreed that the best decision for both parties involved is to go separate ways. On behalf of the organization, I want to thank Joel for his years of service and wish him the best in his coaching career."

Our View:He coached the Avalanche to a 44-31-7 regular-season record and a berth in the Western Conference playoffs this year.
Joe Sakic, C Thursday 5/1, 11:42 PM CT
Joe Sakic may or may not return for another season, but if this was his final game he acquitted himself well with two assists in a Game 4 loss to the Red Wings.

Our View:Sakic produced 10 points in 10 playoff games clearly signifying that he has plenty left in the tank if he wished to continue his remarkable career.
