Craig Rivet, D Saturday 7/5, 4:10 PM CT
Craig Rivet was traded to the Sabres, not because the Sharks were unhappy with his performance, but because of salary considerations, according to the San Jose Mercury.

Our View: The Sharks added Dan Boyle and Rob Blake which not only made Rivet somewhat redundant in terms of blueliners, but also too expensive at $3.5 million. Rivet should continue to be a nice depth defensemen in Buffalo after a solid '07-'08.
Craig Rivet, D Friday 7/4, 4:51 PM CT
Defenseman Craig Rivet, and a seventh-round pick in 2010, have been dealt from the Sharks to the Sabres in exchange for second-round selections in the 2009 and 2010 drafts, according to TSN. Sabres' GM Darcy Regier said, "We are very excited to add such a quality veteran player to our roster. He is a great character player that will provide our club added leadership and experience."

Our View: Rivet became expendable to the Sharks following their acquisitions of Rob Blake and Dan Boyle. He should prove to be an asset to the Sabres, as he contributed five goals and 30 assists over 74 games for San Jose in 2007-08, with 104 penalty minutes.
Patrick Lalime, G Tuesday 7/1, 4:31 PM CT
Patrick Lalime has left the Blackhawks and signed a two-year deal with the Sabres worth $2 million, according to TSN.ca.

Our View: If the team can re-sign Ryan Miller, Lalime will serve as his backup.
Paul Gaustad, C Tuesday 7/1, 12:47 PM CT
Paul Gaustad re-signed with the Sabres at a cost of $9.2 million over the next four years, according to TSN. "He is someone who we expect to take a leadership role with this team from the standpoint as an example for younger players and his peers," GM Darcy Regier said.

Our View: Gaustad, the club's seventh round selection in 2000, has scored 28 goals and handed out 54 assists in 215 career games making him a solid solider but not someone to target in fantasy circles.
