Thrashers sign D Hainsey
Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Thrashers signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Ron Hainsey to a multi-year contract. Per team policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

Hainsey, 27, recorded eight goals and 24 assists in 78 games for the Columbus Blue Jackets last season. He led all Columbus defensemen in goals, assists, points and shots while ranking second on the team in average ice time per game. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound defenseman also ranked second on the team with eight power play goals, which tied him for sixth among NHL defenseman.

The Thrashers have bought out the remainder of Alexei Zhitnik's contract, according to TSN.ca.

Our View:He has cleared waivers and is now a free agent. The 15-year vet only scored three goals and five assists over 65 games with Atlanta in 2007-08.

Alexei Zhitnik has been placed on waivers by the Thrashers, according to the Calgary Herald.

Our View:The 35-year old only scored three goals and five assists over 65 games in 2007-08. GM Don Waddell previously stated that Zhitnik would still be a big part of the Thrashers' future, but he has changed his mind, evidenced by his release.

Zach Bogosian was chosen 3rd overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, according to NHL.com.

Our View:Bogosian scored 61 points in the OHL last season as the only player from the blueline to lead his team in scoring in the league. Not just an offensive minded player, Bogosian is also very solid on the defensive side of the puck as well.
