October 5, 2008
Jose Theodore made 40 saves on 44 shots on Sunday before he and his teammates fell in the shootout to he Bruins.

Our View:Theodore will likely be called on to appear in at least 60 games this season, and ultimately he could be he, and not Alexander Ovechkin, that determines how much success the Caps will have.
October 3, 2008
Jose Theodore stopped 17 of 18 shots in the Capitals 5-1 win over Philadelphia on Friday night. He improved to 2-0-0 this preseason.

Our View:Theodore is the No. 1 goalie for an improved Capitals team. He should win 30 games this season and is a sound option in the crease for fantasy owners.
July 13, 2008
Jose Theodore is happy to be with the Washington Capitals, in part because the atmosphere there allows him to maintain his privacy, according to the Associated Press. "I think the change was really good. Being here, I'm really excited. I can focus on what I do for a living," Theodore said.

Our View:The Capitals will be happy as well if he plays like he did last year, or even better. He won 28 games and had a 2.44 goals-against average and is a very good option for fantasy players.
July 1, 2008
Jose Theodore wasted little time in decided which team he wanted to sign with as he chose the Washington Capitals where he signed a 3-year, $16 million deal, according to TSN.

Our View:Theodore certainly used a strong season in Colorado to receive a plum job in Washington. With this signing, it seems almost a 100% certainty that Cristobal Huet will not be back with the Caps after a tremendous run with the club after he was acquired from Theodore's old team, the Canadiens. Look for Theodore to be valued at the bottom rung of starting goalies in two starter systems heading into next season.
July 1, 2008
Free agent Jose Theodore has almost certainly played his last game in an Avalanche uniform, according to the Denver Post.

Our View:Peter Budaj will enter camp as the starter and figures to get the bulk of the workload unless the team does something unexpected and brings in another top-shelf keeper. Budaj should reside right in the middle of the second goalie pool in 2008-09.
June 26, 2008
Jose Theodore will test the free agent market on July 1, according to TSN.ca. Contract talks between Theodore and Colorado have broken down. His agent (Don Meehan) stated, "I would say we are going to July 1. There's a chance we could still negotiate with the Avalanche after that, but right now it's looking like we're going to July 1."

Our View:The 31-year old netminder is coming off a solid season as he went 28-21-3 with a 2.44 GAA and .910 save percentage. If Theodore does become a free agent on July 1, he would be considered the top goalie on the market.
June 10, 2008
A new deal between Jose Theodore and the Avalanche could be on the horizon, according to the Denver Post. His agent (Don Meehan) said, "I think things could accelerate quickly." Theodore will meet with Meehan today, to discuss what Meehan said was a contract offer.

Our View:If Theodore becomes a free agent on July 1, he would be considered the top goalie on the market. The Avalanche would be thin beyond Peter Budaj, and re-signing Theodore would be a good move.

Jose Theodore wants to continue his career in Colorado and the team feels the same way, according to the Rocky Mountain News. Theodore's agent (Don Meehan) said that he expects to talk with Colorado GM Francois Giguere about a contract extension, and Meehan added, "We're looking forward to seeing Francois and having discussions with him. Jose's priority would be to be back in Denver. We've expressed that to Francois, and they've indicated they would like to have him back."

Our View:The 31-year old goalie was solid for the Avalanche this season, as he held a 28-21-3 record with a 2.44 goals-against average.
May 1, 2008
Jose Theodore has a poor track record in the second round of the playoffs, as he is 2-16 over his career, according to the Denver Post. That includes 14 straight losses.

Our View:Colorado is down 3-0 in the series against Detroit, and should have went with backup goalie Peter Budaj, who stopped 39-of-40 shots in the first two games against Detroit.
April 28, 2008
Jose Theodore will start Game 3 against Detroit on Tuesday, despite being ineffective in Game 2, due to a bout with the flu, according to The Denver Post. He has allowed eight goals over 36-shots by Detroit in the first two games, but the team said that Theodore is their guy and had a good stretch for them.

Our View:Theodore was average in the regular season as he only went 28-21, and it is surprising that the team won't go with Peter Budaj in Game 3, who has been more effective, as he stopped 39-of-40 shots in the first two games against Detroit.
April 26, 2008
Jose Theodore was back on the ice after being replaced in Game 1 and sent to the hotel because of an illness, but he didn't last long in Game 2, either. "You need to keep the score close and I didn't do that," Theodore said. The Red Wings chased Theodore midway through the second period after Franzen scored his first two goals and Valtteri Filppula and Henrik Zetterberg added goals.

Our View:Theodore was average during the regular season winning 28 games and dropping 21.
April 25, 2008
Jose Theodore has been fighting a case of the flu, but he is expected to play in Game 2 on Saturday against Detroit, according to the Rocky Mountain News. He felt well enough to practice today.

Our View:Theodore allowed four goals on 16 shots in Game 1, but he wasn't feeling well, and he should bounce back in Game 2.
April 24, 2008
Jose Theodore gave it his all in Game 1, but he was eventually pulled and sent to the team's hotel as he is apparently suffering from a terrible case of the flu, according to NHL.com.

Our View:Theodore gave up four goals on 16 shots, though to be fair two of the goals were a bit fluky. Peter Budaj entered the game and stopped all 20 shots he faced in the 4-3 loss to the Wings.
April 23, 2008
Jose Theodore finished the first round with some sterling numbers including a 1.88 GAA and .940 save percentage for the Avalanche.

Our View:Remember back when he was nothing more than a backup to Peter Budaj at the start of the season? Theodore turned things around, claimed the starting role, and is now channeling the form he showed when he was an award winner in the past. Colorado has a tough matchup with the best team in the regular season (Detroit) but that doesn't mean that Theodore isn't primed for the challenge.
April 20, 2008
Jose Theodore was named the First Star for Saturday night, as he made 34 saves in a 2-1 win over the Wild, according to NHL.com. His effort helped put Colorado in the Western Conference semifinals.

Our View:He only allowed four goals over Colorado's last three wins.
April 19, 2008
Jose Theodore stopped all but one of the 35 shots that were thrown his way in Game 6 as the Avalanche defeated the Wild 2-1 to win the series four games to two.

Our View:Remember back when Theodore was nothing more than a backup to Peter Budaj at the start of the year? Things certainly have changed as he looked great starting every game of this series.
April 17, 2008
Jose Theodore made 38 saves as the Avalanche defeated the Wild, 3-2.

Our View:Theodore stopped 24 shots on Tuesday in Colorado's second series win.
April 16, 2008
Jose Theodore stopped 24-of-25 shots in Tuesday's 5-1 win over Minnesota. He is now 2-2 in the series.

After stopping 27 of 29 shots, Theodore then was able to extend the shutout to 12 rounds before Cody McLeod finally slipped one past Mikael Tellqvist for the victory. Theodore is now 9-8-1 over his last 18 games while the team coped with the loss of Joe Sakic, Ryan Smyth and Paul Stastny. Only Sakic has yet to return to action.
February 18, 2008
Jose Theodore may have allowed four goals on Monday night but he was still awarded the games third start as he played brilliantly despite the onslaught by the Wings (Theodore saved 36 of 40 shots on the night). Jose appears to have wrestled the goalie spot from Peter Budaj as he has gone 8-8-1 in his last 17 starts with a GAA of 2.17.
February 7, 2008
Jose Theodore returned to the Avalanche crease on Wednesday night after missing a week with back spasms and stopped 30 of 31 San Jose shots in picking up his 14th win of the season. Theodore and Peter Budaj will likely split playing time down the stretch unless one of them catches fire.
