Gary Roberts has signed a one-year deal with the Lightning, according to TSN.ca. Roberts will be paid a base salary of $1.25 million plus $10,000 for every game that he plays in the 2008-09 regular season.

Our View:He would make $2.07 million if he plays all 82 games, which is a good deal for the aging 42-year-old winger, since he made $2.5 million with the Penguins last season.

Gary Roberts is not expected to re-sign with the Penguins, according to TSN.ca.

Our View:Roberts made $2.5 million in 2007-08, and the team has several players to re-sign, namely Evgeni Malkin, and Roberts doesn't believe the team will have the funds to match his salary with a new deal. The 42-year old will test the market as an unrestricted free agent on July 1, but his value has diminished as he was limited to only 38 games last season due to a broken leg and an ankle sprain, and he may not be able to find a better deal with another club.

After missing five games with pneumonia, Gary Roberts found himself a healthy scratch in Game 1. The reason for this was the Pens didn't want to be without their enforcer (Georges Laraque), or mess with what had been a winning combination for them against the Flyers.

Our View:While Roberts ice time is likely to fall in the 10-to 11-minute range, expect the veteran to supply hard hits and gritty hustle in a must win for Pittsburgh.
