Detroit Red Wings fans probably got a little excited when they received a message from Red Wings Mobile News that said Steve Yzerman was returning to the team. Alas, it was either a hoax or a mistake, and he will not be back in uniform this season, according to the Detroit News. "I promise you, he's not coming out of retirement," said Steve Violetta, Red Wings' senior vice president of business affairs.

Steve Yzerman ended months of speculation about his future by announcing his retirement Monday, according to the AP. "My intention throughout the season was to retire, play one last year," Yzerman said. "I really enjoyed my final season here with the Red Wings. I thought about it a lot, about coming back and playing this season. This is the right decision for me at this time. I really have no doubt about that." Yzerman had 34 points last season and totaled 1,755 points throughout his storied 22-year career.
