Former captain and team leader Trevor Linden will have his number 16 retired by the Canucks, according to TSN. "This is a tremendous honor and I am very grateful to the club," said Linden in a statement. "To be drafted by the Canucks organization 20 years ago as an 18 year old and to now have my sweater retired is very humbling and rewarding."

Our View:A deserving honor for a player who excelled on and off the ice. In related news, the team has decided to wait on retiring the #56 of newly acquired Steve Bernier who has yet to appear in a game for the Canucks.

After 21 seasons of service in the NHL, Vancouver forward Trevor Linden will announce his retirment in a press conference on Wednesday, according to SLAM Sports.

Our View:The Canucks selected Linden second overall in the 1988 and he would go on to play 16 seasons in Vancouver. He helped the Canucks reach Game 7 of the 1994 Stanley Cup final. In 1,382 games Linden scored 375 goals, added 492 assists and collected 867 penalty minutes.

Although he was coy when asked about his intentions directly, Trevor Linden hinted at a fund-raiser recently that he is contemplating retirement, according to the Vancouver Sun.

Our View:The 38-year-old has had a tremendous career, but he hasn't been a fantasy factor for a few years now.
