Martin Brodeur has begun some rehab from his surgery to repair a torn left biceps tendon, according to the Bergen County Record.

Our View:It is a good step for Brodeur even though his return is still a while away. The earliest the team expects his return is early February.
November 11, 2008
Martin Brodeur revealed Tuesday that his left biceps tendon was 70 to 80 percent torn before he completely snapped it on November 1, according to SportsTicker. "My injury was that it was already torn before," Brodeur told the Bergen Record. "It didn't snap 100 percent. So, that's why I didn't have any stupid pain. That's why it was hard for me to believe that was it, the whole thing tore (at once). It was a combination of an older injury or wear and tear probably more than an older injury. Because I think if I did it 80 percent (at once) I would have felt it. It was probably just wear and tear and the rest just snapped (in the Atlanta game). It was just a matter of time. It could have happened now. It could have happened next year. Who knows?"

Our View:Brodeur said the previously torn tendon never affected his play, and this revelation does not affect his return date, which is in early February, at the earliest.
November 6, 2008
Martin Brodeur underwent surgery Thursday to repair the distal biceps in his left elbow, according to the Associated Press. The doctors deemed the surgery to be 100 percent successful.

Our View:The future Hall of Famer is expected to miss three to four months. In a best case scenario, he could return in early February.
November 4, 2008
Updating an earlier report, Martin Brodeur will need surgery to repair the distal bicep in his left elbow, according to the New Jersey Devils' official site. Brodeur will be out for three to four months with the surgery.

Our View:Brodeur should be placed on the IR shortly, and should be kept for a stretch run. If you're in a league without IR spots, you may want to consider dropping him.
November 4, 2008
Martin Brodeur had a x-ray and a MRI performed on his left elbow, but the results are not yet known, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Our View:Brodeur is probably going to miss some more time, but is easily worth an IR spot on your roster if you have him.
November 2, 2008
Devils goalie Martin Brodeur will miss the team's game on Monday due to an elbow injury, according to ESPN.com.

Our View:Brodeur hurt the elbow on Saturday, and will undergo tests to determine what the problem is. Fantasy owners can only hope that the diagnosis will not cause him to be out an extended period of time.
November 1, 2008
It has been revealed that Martin Brodeur suffered a bruised left elbow when forced out of tonight's game against the Thrashers, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Brodeur has started each of the Devils' 10 games this season. It remains to be seen if he will need to miss any time with the ailment.
November 1, 2008
Martin Brodeur left Saturday's game against Atlanta in the second period with an undisclosed injury, according to the Associated Press. Brodeur was injured while attempting to make a save.

Our View:He was replaced between the pipes by Kevin Weekes. It is unknown if Brodeur will return to action tonight.
October 29, 2008
Martin Brodeur lost his third game of the year Wednesday night in a 6-5 loss to the Maple Leafs. Brodeur gave up five goals on 48 shots.

Our View:The loss was Brodeur's third in three games. In the last three games he has given up 15 goals.
October 25, 2008
Martin Brodeur lost to the Flyers for the second straight game, allowing three goals on 33 shots, as his Devils fell 3-2 in overtime.

Our View:Brodeur had a rough couple of games, allowing eight goals on 60 shots. He's still a premiere goalie, though, and played well enough to win.
October 24, 2008
Martin Brodeur was beaten five times on 27 shots in the 6-3 defeat the Devils received at the hands of the Flyers.

Our View:Brodeur entered the game having allowed eight goals in six games so tonight's effort was a bit shocking. Brodeur is still 5-2 on the year though, and this was just one of those nights that happens when you start 70+ games each season.
October 22, 2008
Martin Brodeur stopped all 21 shots to record a shutout on Wednesday against the Dallas Stars.

Our View:Brodeur is off to an exceptional start this season. He is 5-1 with a GAA under 1.50. The seasoned veteran is on top of his game and a very valuable fantasy commodity.
October 16, 2008
New Jersey goalie Martin Brodeur stopped all 25 shots that the Thrashers threw at him, collecting his tird win and first shutout of the season.

Our View:Brodeur now has 97 shutouts in his career, needing just six more to become the NHL's all-time leader. He has won his last three games in a row.
October 13, 2008
Martin Brodeur allowed the Rangers to score three times on 20 shots, and New York wound up with a 4-1 win on Monday.

Our View:Brodeur suffers his first loss of the season. He was 2-0, but still remains one of the top fantasy options in goal.
October 10, 2008
Martin Brodeur stopped 25-of-26 shots in Friday's 2-1 win over the Islanders in the season opener.

Our View:The future Hall of Famer is averaging 45 wins over the last three seasons, and picked up career win No. 539 tonight.
October 1, 2008
Martin Brodeur shutout the New York Islanders with 16 saves on Wednesday night. The Devils defeated their opponents 3-0.

Our View:Brodeur is as good as it gets in the crease. He started 77 games last season, winning 44 of them. He posted a stellar 2.17 GAA.
September 21, 2008
Devils goalie Martin Brodeur will not accompany the team to Philadelphia when New Jersey takes on the Flyers in an exhibition contest Monday, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Our View:The team will take a bus to Philly, which probably had something to do with it, and if you're a future Hall of Fame goalie, these types of courtesies are usually extended to you.
September 20, 2008
Devils goalie Martin Brodeur wants to keep playing this season - a lot, according to the New York Post. "I expect to play at least 70 games, for sure," Brodeur said.

Our View:That would suit fantasy owners just fine, as one of the all-time greats continues to produce. He remains an upper echelon backstop.
September 9, 2008
Martin Brodeur is hopeful that he will be able to represent Canada in the 2010 Olympic Games after also participating in 1998, 2002 and 2006, according to the Bergen Record. "I think it would be quite an accomplishment to play in four Olympics. My kids have already been talking to me about it. They want me to go."

Our View:Given that the Games will take place in Vancouver Roberto Luongo might have a say on who starts in net for Canada, but we wouldn't bet against Brodeur even if he will be approaching 40 at the time.
September 5, 2008
Martin Brodeur is 36 years old and coming off a season in which he led the NHL in appearances with 77 games. The question is will his workload be cut in the coming season given the perception that he wore down late in the year, according to the Star Ledger.

Our View:The team would like to play Brodeur a bit less, but given his excellence each year, and the fact that the team doesn't have a bonafide backup to turn to, and we wouldn't bet against Brodeur having an 11th straight season of at least 70 games played. He remains the top option in net on draft day.
August 3, 2008
The NHL will limit the size of goalies knee pads and clavicle protectors in the coming season, according to the Boston Globe. "A lot of goaltenders wear extraneous flaps," said Glenn Healy, the director of public affairs for the NHL Players' Association.

Our View:Basically, the league wants goalies wearing enough to protect themselves, but not so much that they can just pull up a recliner and stop every shot. It's not a major change, but a few more goals might be scored through the five-hole.
June 12, 2008
Martin Brodeur won the Veinza Trophy on Thursday night awarded to the leagues best goaltender, according to TSN. "I was really happy with the way I played this year," said Brodeur. "(My health) has been great in the last four or five years

Our View:This was the fourth Vezina of Brodeur's illustrious career, two behind Dominik Hasek's record of six awards. Brodeur picked up 15 first place votes to Evgeni Nabokov's 13 in a bit of an upset since Nabokov had two more wins (46), four less loses (29), a 0.03 GAA lead (2.14) and two more shutouts (six). So much for the numbers. Do you think any of the voters actually stay up late enough to even watch Nabokov play on the West Coast?
April 21, 2008
Martin Brodeur is a finalist for the Vezina Trophy, given to the league's best goaltender. He won the award for the third time following the 2006-07 season, and this marks the eighth time he is a finalist. Brodeur won 44 games, pitched four shutouts, and posted a 2.17 GAA this past season.

Our View:Yeah, Marty is pretty good at stopping pucks.
April 18, 2008
Martin Brodeur permitted four goals on 22 shots as he fell to 1-4 against the Rangers as the Devils lost their first round matchup.

Our View:A terrible end to an otherwise brilliant campaign, Brodeur ended the playoffs with an awful 3.20 GAA against the Rangers.
April 18, 2008
Martin Brodeur isn't playing up to his normal lofty standards in these playoffs, and that is one of the main reasons the Devils trail the Rangers 3-1 in the first round, this according to the Newark Star Ledger.

Our View:It's not like Brodeur has been terrible, he has posted a 2.98 GAA and .904 SV% through four games, but he has uncharacteristically allowed a few soft goals. If the Devils have any chance of coming back their HOF bound goalie will be at the center of it.
April 11, 2008
Martin Brodeur halved his goal total from Game 1 by allowing just two pucks past him on Friday, he made 28 saves, but the Devils still trail two games to none to the Rangers. Brodeur has allowed some uncharacteristically soft goals in the playoffs and has been far from the dominating tender he has been for the past decade.
April 9, 2008
The Rangers go into this series with plenty of confidence, since they registered 15 out of a possible 16 points in the season series versus the Devils--dropping only the final regular-season game in a shootout. However, many believe that the Devils are the favorites to come out of the East due primarily to Martin Brodeur postseason experience. New York will try to take advantage of their superior offensive depth, and they will lean heavily on the playoff experience of forwards Jaromir Jagr, Chris Drury, Brendan Shanahan and Scott Gomez. They'll also rely heavily on goalie Henrik Lundqvist in Game 1.
April 5, 2008
Martin Brodeur may be the best tender in the league, but the inability to keep shots off goal has pushed the future Hall of Famer to struggles. Brodeur allowed three goals in a shutout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers last night, pushing 33 of 36 total shots on goal aside. Brodeur has allowed a surprising 10 goals over his last four games, two ending in shootout wins for New Jersey. More importantly, the Devils are suddenly allowing a high number of shots to come at their goalie, including 31 SOG by the Rangers, 32 SOG by Philly late last week, 27 SOG by Boston, and last night's troublesome 36 SOG by the Flyers. If the Devils want to emerge in the playoffs, they need to get their defense in order.
April 4, 2008
Martin Brodeur will make his 40th straight start on Friday night and could play the teams final regular season contest on Sunday as well, this according to the Bergen Record. "You want to play well going in. It's just the time factor, depending on when we start, the 10th or the 9th. It will be a long time [between starts] if I skip the Ranger [game]. I don't know. We'll figure it out." Brodeur is a workhorse who has appeared in at least 70 games for 10-straight seasons, so don't worry about him wearing down in the playoffs.
April 2, 2008
Martin Brodeur picked up his 43rd victory of the season in a shootout victory on Wednesday as he stopped 25 of 27 shots that the Bruins threw at him. Brodeur has now won three straight decisions after losing four straight, so it appears that Brodeur is rounding back into form just in time for the playoffs. With the East being wide open this year, Brodeur seems like the best bet to select amongst goalies in that conference for a playoff pool.
March 19, 2008
Every loss is tough to take, but for Martin Brodeur, nothing hurts more than posting a 95.238% save rate only to fall by one goal. That is what happened this evening in the Devils’ 1-2 loss to the New York Rangers as Brodeur stopped 20 of 21 shots on goal. His team let him down (again) and the future Hall-of-Fame keeper walks away with nice numbers but a loss and a bad taste in his mouth.
March 15, 2008
Martin Brodeur nailed down his 40th win of the season against Colorado Saturday night, and reached that milestone for a record seventh time with New Jersey, according to NHL.com. After the game Brodeur commented, "I build my career and the way I play around being consistent. I play a lot of games, my teammates expect me to win 40 games. Goals are nice to accomplish, but your team has got to be a big part of it also."
March 13, 2008
Martin Brodeur stopped 34 of 37 shots as he helped New Jersey lock up a 4-3 win over Minnesota. That was his 39th win of the season, with four coming over his last five games.
March 10, 2008
Martin Brodeur was named the NHL's second star for the week ending March 9th, this according to NHL.com. For the week Brodeur went 3-0 with a 0.98 GAA and .972 SV%. Brodeur is once again in the running for the Vezina Trophy as he has posted his 11th straight season of at least 37 victories.
March 8, 2008
For the second time this week, goalie Martin Martin Brodeur posted 40 saves (42 to be exact), working as the top keeper on the day with an amazing performance to lead the Devils to victory at Toronto, 2-1. The man is one of the best the game has known and continues to bring his team through in the tight situations. 42 saves is an outstanding performance for any other goalie on any other night. For Brodeur, it's just another day at the office.
March 4, 2008
New Jersey goalie Martin Brodeur made 40 saves in the Devils’ 4-1 over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday night.
February 25, 2008
Martin Brodeur was named the NHL's third star for the week ending February 24th, according to a report in NHL.com. Brodeur went 4-0 with a 1.48 GAA and .948 save percentage on the week. Martin is just five victories short of his seventh 40-win season and he continues to be the most consistently excellent fantasy goalie in the game.
February 17, 2008
Martin Brodeur made 37 blocks on Saturday night in the Devils' 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators. Brodeur won his 31st game of the season.
February 15, 2008
Martin Brodeur won't be resting anytime soon. He hasn't sat since Jan. 5, and he figures to be in the lineup for most, if not all, the games down the stretch. "I'm not going to talk about the second game - (Brodeur)'s playing the first game," coach Brent Sutter said in the Newark Star-Ledger. "We're a game-to-game team, as far as decision-making with a lot of different things. But Marty's situation, obviously, you've got to expect he's going to play until he and I discuss otherwise."
February 13, 2008
Martin Brodeur won his 30th game on Wednesday night, his NHL record 12th straight season of reaching that mark. Since a 3-6 October, Brodeur has been his old self with a 27-13-3 record as one of the top-3 goalies in the NHL for like the millionth straight season. Look for Martin to play virtually every game the rest of the season and to shoot for his third straight 40-win season.
