Our View:Weight has scored eight assists and 10 points over 10 games this season. He has collected an assist in five straight games and is doing a great job of directing the Islanders' offense.

Newsday reports that Doug Weight to left point on the top power play unit with defenseman Mark Streit at the right point. "I didn't realize how good a puckhandler he was," coach Scott Gordon said of Weight.

Our View:This should further Weight's value. Through five games he has four points and two penalty minutes. Both of his goals this season have come on the power play.

Center Doug Weight got off to a good start on Friday, and he continued the trend on Saturday. He picked up two assists in the 5-2 win over the Blues.

Our View:Weight left his best fantasy days behind sometime around the turn of the millennium, but he is still useful as a long-end fantasy center.

Doug Weight scored the Islanders' lone goal in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Devils. The goal was assisted by Mark Streit and Bill Guerin.

Our View:Weight only scored 10 goals over 67 games last season, and the 37-year-old vet is off to a solid start in 2008.
October 4, 2008
Doug Weight contributed a goal in Saturday's 3-1 win over Boston. He scored on the power-play.

Our View:Weight has 265 career goals, but only scored 10 over 67 games with the Ducks last season, and will provide little more than veteran leadership to the Islanders in 2008.

Doug Weight is hoping to return to action on Friday, but a decision won't come until after the morning skate, according to the LA Times. If he isn't able to hit the ice Friday, he's confident he'll be ready for the Ducks' next tilt. Weight has been out for three weeks with a shoulder injury.

Doug Weight remains sidelined with a shoulder strain that has now kept him out of the last five games including Friday night's tilt. Word is that he is still about a week from returning to the lineup. Weight has only nine points in 25 games while in Anaheim after 11 points in 29 games with St. Louis. Perhaps his numbers will improve if he skates with Teemu Selanne when he returns to the ice.

Doug Weight has an upper-arm injury that has bothered him for the last week, and that's why he sat out Sunday afternoon's game in Detroit, according to the LA Times. Weight flew to Anaheim and will undergo an MRI exam Monday to determine how severe it is. "It's an injury that happened 10 days ago," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "He was getting better and getting better. The game against the [New York] Islanders, he fell on it and hurt it again. And he's been basically ineffective." Weight has only one point in his last 12 games and is a mere shell of the stud he was once upon a time in Edmonton.
