Player Notes
November 22, 2008
Scott Niedermayer scored his third goal of the season on Friday, giving him 11 points in 21 games.

Our View:Neidermayer hasn't been as productive as usual so far this season, as he's only on pace for 43 points. He put up over 60 in his last full season, with 25 in about half a season last year.
October 4, 2008
Scott Niedermayer had three assists in Anaheim's 4-1 win over the Coyotes on Friday. Two of his helpers came on the power play.

Our View:Niedermayer posted 25 points in 48 games last season. His production figures to go up as he sees Teemu Selanne more often on his power play unit. He is a quality fantasy blue-liner for the upcoming campaign.

Updating an earlier story it is now official. Scott Niedermayer will indeed return for a final season with the Ducks, according to ESPN. "I guess after a shorter year and shorter playoff run I definitely feel physically and mentally ready to go," Niedermayer said. "I'm happy to have a decision made and to be moving forward."

Our View:Niedermayer is still considered to be one of the top-10 defensemen in the world, and it's not like he is over the hill, he's still just 34 years old. Niedermayer should be drafted at a #1 defensemen next season with confidence.

Scott Niedermayer has reportedly decided to return to the Ducks for another NHL campaign according to TSN.ca.

Our View:The source states that he informed Ducks' GM Brian Burke that he will return to fulfill the final year of his contract in 2008-09. He should be in better shape next season and will likely rebound from his disappointing 25-point campaign in 2007-08, hence ranking among the top-12 fantasy defensemen.
June 19, 2008
The Ducks have informed Scott Niedermayer that he has until July 1 to make his decision whether to return to Ahaheim for another season, according to TSN.ca.

Our View:His agent (Kevin Epp) stated that a decision regarding Neidermayer's future will be made by Friday, but he may now use the added time to make up his mind.
June 18, 2008
Everyone stop what you're doing. Ready? Okay, you'll have to wait until Friday. Scott Niedermayer has made a decision on his future, and he'll inform the Ducks sometime between now and the draft on Friday, the AP reports.

Our View:We're on pins and needles. Niedermayer pulled a Brett Favre last season, and we hope he sticks to whatever decision he announces this time. He can still help in fantasy leagues.
June 7, 2008
Scott Niedermayer is still undecided as to whether he will play next season, according to the LA Times.

Our View:GM Brian Burke gave him a June 20 deadline to make up his mind, before the NHL entry draft. Niedermayer racked up eight goals and 17 assists over 48 contests in 2007-08.
May 22, 2008
The Ducks would love to have Scott Niedermayer back on their blueline next season, but that team will not wait around like it did this season for him to make up his mind, according to the Los Angeles Times. Niedermayer was given until next month's NHL Entry Draft to make up his mind.

Our View:Niedermayer still possesses the all-world skills that make him one of the top-5 defensemen in the game. The question is, will he return for one final season or ride off into the sunset?
April 22, 2008
It turns out that Scott Niedermayer wasn't fined $500,000 by the NHL, he was actually fined by the Ducks, this according to TSN. Apparently the story was originally mis-reported and the truth is that the league's CBA says that a team must fine a player who misses training camp if that team uses the "missing" player's salary to sign another player which the Ducks did in Mathieu Schneider.

Our View:Niedermayer has known that this fine was coming since he made the decision to miss training camp and virtually the first half of the season the year while deciding whether or not he wanted to continue his career. Don't feel bad for Scott, he has made enough dough that he will be able to afford his next meal.

Scott Niedermayer has been fined $500,000 by the NHL for missing training camp this season, this according to TSN. Here is the line from the CBA: "For each day a Player does not report to Training Camp without his Club's permission, his pay will be reduced by 1/275th of his annual salary..." Since Scott earned $6.75 million, that works out to $500,000 in fines.

Our View:Ducks GM Brian Burke is trying to get the fine reversed, but it looks like it might stick. At this point, with the Ducks eliminated from the playoffs, we doubt Scott cares much about the money.
