"Bill is another Stanley Cup champion who has the ability to bring a combination of speed, skill and offence to our top two forward lines," team president John Davidson said in a release. The Stars placed Bill Guerin on waivers Thursday and intend to buy out his $6.7 million contract if he's not claimed by another team, according to the AP. If Guerin clears waivers Friday, which is likely, the Stars will pay him $4.4 million over the next two seasons and he would become an unrestricted free agent Saturday.

Bill Guerin is supposed to make $6.7 million next season, but it is possible that the Stars could buy out that contract between June 15 and June 30 or trade him in a 50-day window that begins after the last game of the Stanley Cup Finals, according to the Dallas Morning News. "They haven't told me what their plans are, but I'm prepared for anything," Guerin said. "I'd love to stay and I've told them that. But it's a business and that means they have to do what's best for the team." Guerin had just 13 goals and 27 assists in 70 games for the Stars this season.
