Mats Sundin's agents will meet with Maple Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher on Friday, according to TSN. "Whatever happens to me, whether I'm not going to play tomorrow or whatever, I know Toronto's always the team in my heart," Sundin said.

Our View:Sources of TSN are also reporting that Sundin will speak with representatives of the Canadiens before he returns to Europe on Monday. The bottom line is that no resolution is at hand and this situation will continue to drag on.
September 4, 2008
The best-selling jersey in Toronto continues to be that of Mats Sundin, even though he has yet to decide if he will play again this season, according to the Toronto Star.

Our View:Besides his great play, Sundin's jersey sales are yet another reason the Maple Leafs should be itching to get him back.
September 3, 2008
The Canucks remain interested in Mats Sundin, according to the Vancouver Sun. GM Mike Gillis said, "The very reason we made such a substantial offer for Sundin is the evaluation of the totality of the person. I respect the guy and I respect his wishes to make sure he's in a position to compete at the level where he and we expect him to be. We made a commitment to try to remain patient. I don't think that by remaining patient, we've lost any opportunities. We're committed to trying to get the best players in here and we think Mats Sundin is the best available player right now."

Our View:Sundin remains uncertain if he is mentally and physically ready to play another grueling campaign in the NHL. Vancouver is one of six clubs targeting him.
August 30, 2008
Mats Sundin has scheduled to make an official appearance in Toronto later this week, though team officials have given no indication that the veteran forward has made a decision on his plans for the season ahead, according to SLAM Sport.

Our View:Sundin is slated to play in the Festival Cup at the Air Canada Centre, a charity hockey game with proceeds going to Right to Play. Sundin's appearance in Toronto does not guarantee he will declare his intentions for the 2008-09 NHL season, but let's hope he gives a hint of what he plans to do. No one, not even the 37-year-old Sundin, is sure what the big Swede is going to do next season. There's a possibility he will let the hockey world in on his future on Friday, if he has not already done so. Though Sundin has a two-year, $20-million offer from the Vancouver Canucks, and speculation has linked him to the New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadiens, there are some who still think Sundin will either retire or return to Toronto.
August 29, 2008
The news out of the Mats Sundin camp just keeps on coming. Now, Sundin might not make his decision until after the regular season has began, according to Sun Media. "Right now we are not putting any pressure on him because he has to get that feeling he wants to play," Barry said. "Right now, he is no closer."

Our View:It will be interesting to see if any of the interested teams will drop out of the race for Sundin now that a decision to play or to retire is too close.
August 27, 2008
As we continue to track the courting of Mats Sundin, reports out of Vancouver indicate the Canucks are prepared to jettison either Chris Drury or Scott Gomez to make room under the salary cap should Sundin choose to come back to hockey for one more season and do so in a Vancouver uniform, according to the Ottawa Sun.

Our View:If Sundin had announced his intentions to play earlier this preseason, teams may have made moves to clear financial space for Sundin. As it stands, the teams that are actually capable of making him an offer is limited due to the length of time the future Hall of Famer is taking just to decide to between returning and retirement. Two teams still voicing public interest despite a lack of cap space are Philadelphia and New York, but neither has been rumored to be seeking trade options should Sundin choose to join their rosters.
August 27, 2008
Scratch the Detroit Red Wings off the list of suitors for Mats Sundin. Detroit general manager Ken Holland said that the team will not be signing the veteran forward, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:Sundin has held numerous teams hostage so far this summer, and has yet to decide whether or not he will play in the NHL this season. If he does, he is obviously someone fantasy owners want to target.
August 26, 2008
With the start of training camp just three weeks away, the Montreal Canadiens aren't holding out much hope of landing unrestricted free agent Mats Sundin, according to TSN. General Manager Bob Gainey discussed the team's attempts to try to sign the centre on Tuesday and admitted there's been little response from Sundin's camp. "It's hard to be optimistic," Gainey told TSN's sister station RDS on Tuesday. "We haven't had much contact with him. It appears he's not interested. He hasn't asked many questions about the organization."

Our View:The Canadiens were seen as the front runners for the 37-year-old after the team acquired his negotiating rights from the Toronto Maple Leafs in late June. But the former Leaf captain remains undecided on whether or not he wants to return for another NHL season. As many as six teams have expressed interest in Sundin's service, including the Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers. While teams have remained in contact with Sundin's agent J.P. Barry, Gainey has not heard anything as of late.
August 26, 2008
The swirl of intrigue around future Hall of Fame forward Mats Sundin continues to grow as we learn the Colorado Avalanche may be jumping into the fight to lure the free agent, according to the Rocky Mountain News.

Our View:The bulk of the rumor can be blamed on worry surrounding the potential retirement of Joe Sakic. Should he decide to go, Sundin would be an obvious target for the Avs to consider, and they would have the cap dollars to make it work. Sundin's agent, J.P. Barry recently downplayed a rumor in the New York Post that he has been in constant communication with the Rangers because the center wants to play with New York. Instead, Barry asserts a total of six teams are in constant contact with hopes of getting a deal done. Vancouver, New York, Philadelphia, Montreal, and his long-time employer Toronto have all confirmed their presence on that list. That leaves one secret team we have yet to identify, and it now appears Colorado may be that franchise. We will keep you posted as further news develops.
August 20, 2008
As the season approaches and the teams of the NHL seek to solidify their rosters, no commodity influx is garnering more attention than future Hall of Fame forward Mats Sundin, and with recent rumors that place a short-but-powerful list of teams in talks with his agent, today we learn the Philadelphia Flyers have a desire to join those talks and seek a way to add Sundin to the Flyers' roster, according to ESPN.com.

Our View:According to the reports from ESPN, Flyers GM Paul Holmgren says he'd love to add free agent Mats Sundin to his roster despite his team lacking the salary cap space to do so. How do they accomplish that? We have no idea, but the longer Sundin takes to make a decision, the deeper the list of teams that want him becomes.
August 19, 2008
Mats Sundin's agent, J.P. Barry has been in constant communication with the Rangers because of the free agent center's interest in joining the team, according to the New York Post. No numbers have been exchanged, according to the Post, which said Sundin's second choice is Philadelphia. Barry downplayed the rumor, saying there have not been increased discussions with the Rangers, according to TSN.ca. "Everybody has been calling regularly trying to get an idea of when his timetable is. Mainly I have just told them we have talked about everything and right now it's just for him to decide," Barry told TSN.ca.

Our View:The Rangers have only around $2M in cap space and would have to shed some salary to pay Sundin in the $5M-$7M range. The Flyers are already above the salary cap. The future Hall of Famer continues to tell the press he is undecided on what he wants to do, and that retirement is still an option, but the works behind the scenes suggest his people are trying to get a deal done. We'll keep you posted.
August 17, 2008
The drama surrounding free-agent forward Mats Sundin seems to have no end. Earlier today we reported Sundin was interested in joining the New York Rangers, but we are now receiving reports that Sundin's agent, J.P. Barry, is denying such claims are true, according to TSN.

Our View:As reported in the New York Post, well-connected sources have stated that Sundin has expressed his interest in playing for the Blueshirts. The Post report went on to say that Sundin's agent, J.P. Barry has been in constant communication with front-office personnel from the Rangers. When contacted by TSN, Barry denied there have been any increased discussions with the Rangers. He told TSN that he has spoken to both the Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers but also has had long discussions with Maple Leafs general manager Cliff Fletcher and Vancouver Canucks general manager Mike Gillis. Barry said there are six teams interested in Sundin's services for next season. Barry also said his client has not made a decision on playing this coming season.
August 17, 2008
Mats Sundin is interested in joining the Rangers, according to the AP. Sundin’s agent, J.P. Barry, has spoken with the Rangers’ front office all week, although those discussions have not yet included specific terms for a contract.

Our View:The Rangers have around $2 million of cap space available, meaning they would have to shake up their roster to sign the 37-year-old Sundin. He has no interest in returning to Toronto, where he was offered a one-year deal worth $7 million.
August 13, 2008
Yesterday we reported the agent for free-agent forward Mats Sundin (J.P. Barry) spoke with reporters in Toronto and indicated his client was nearing a decision concerning his involvement in the upcoming NHL season. Today reporters found Sundin and obtained comments direct from the source, according to the Toronto Star. "I haven't decided yet," Sundin told Sportsnet, according to the Sun. "I think sometime in August I hope to come to a conclusion on what I'm going to do ... if I'm going to play or not this year."

Our View:Maple Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher told the Toronto Star that the center was expected to begin on-ice workouts this week, but appears that is not the case. Sundin reports he is staying in shape and working as if he will be playing, be it in Toronto or elsewhere. However, it appears his delay is at least a indication that retirement may be on the mind and weighing heavy. We will continue to track the situation as it unfolds.
August 12, 2008
It appears our overdue news on the future of Mats Sundin is close to arriving, according to ESPN.com. "He's working out off the ice and he's supposed to start on the ice the beginning of the week," Maple Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher told reporters in Toronto today.

Our View:J.P. Barry, the agent for Sundin, last week told TSN that the unrestricted free agent "isn't close" to making a decision on his future. Sundin, 37, had been expected to announce August 1st whether he intended to play or retire, but Barry clarified that to mean sometime in August. As a result, many believe the long time to make a decision means Sundin is leaning toward retirement. Barry previously said six teams are vying for Sundin's services. Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver are confirmed to be pursuing him, with the Canucks' two-year, $20M offer the richest of any offer.
August 9, 2008
Mats Sundin has left people in the lurk about whether or not he will suit up next season, but he has now begun skating, according to the Toronto Star.

Our View:This does not necessarily mean he is coming back to the ice, but it is a step in the right direction. Sundin gave fantasy owners 78 points last season, and would be an attractive option again this year.
August 6, 2008
The NHL offseason continues to move along and veteran winger Mats Sundin has yet to make a decision about his future, according to SLAM Sports. Asked about the status of his decision, Coach Ron Wilson, in town for summer meetings with general manager Cliff Fletcher, replied, "When I find out for sure about Mats Sundin, then I'll worry about life with or without him."

Our View:Sundin remains non-commital about playing or retiring, with agent J.P. Barry saying in recent days that the captain's indecision could be a hint he's not coming back. Though Sundin's overall contributions have been second-guessed in light of the Leafs missing the playoffs the past three seasons, last year he led the NHL in draws taken (1,713) and draws won (945), a 55.2% success rate.
August 3, 2008
Mats Sundin still hasn't officially decided whether or not to continue his career, but one overlooked aspect of his game that will be lost if he retires is his ability in the faceoff circle, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Sundin led the league last year with 945 faces off wins, 68 more than runner up Bobby Holik. If Rod Brind'Amour hadn't been injured he would have led the league (he finished with 851), and nine of the top-10 draws came from the Eastern Conference (only the Sharks Joe Thornton was from the West).
August 1, 2008
Mats Sundin is seriously contemplating retirement, and has not yet begun to workout, an indication that he could hang 'em up, according to the Toronto Star.

Our View:Despite being 37 years of age, Sundin posted 78 points last season, so a number of teams are vying for his services, and fantasy players surely would like to see him continue on the ice.
July 30, 2008
Despite earlier reports from Canada stating the race was down to two teams, the agent for Mats Sundin now indicates six teams in all are vying for the services of the future Hall of Famer, accordign to TSN.

Our View:Agent JP Barry has told the press these teams would like to keep their names out of the report, but he claims new teams have jumped into the bidding upon hearing he would return to Toronto or sign with Vancouver. Barry did admit that Detroit is not one of the teams interested.
July 26, 2008
It would appear the race to sign forward Mats Sundin has come down to two teams, those being his incumbent employer, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Vancouver Canucks, according to the Vancouver Sun.

Our View:Sundin has told reporters he will make a decision by August 1st, but reports indicate only two teams are in contention to sign the veteran goal hawk. Vancouver general manager Mike Gillis has told reporters he believes he has more than a decent chance of landing free-agent center. We'll keep you posted.
July 23, 2008
Mats Sundin will apparently make the final decision on his future and whether or not that future will include another season in the NHL on August 1st, according to TSN.

Our View:The Canucks are the leaders in terms of dollars, but the Leafs and the Canadiens are also still in the hunt. It appears he will return for at least one more season and that he will play for a team that calls Canada home.
July 22, 2008
Mats Sundin has not ruled out re-signing with the Maple Leafs, according to The Star. Toronto's offer isn't near the $20 million that the Canucks have on the table, but Sundin has not ruled out remaining with Toronto. Sundin said, "I have been in Toronto for 13 seasons and it is like home to me. Nothing is out of the picture. But Vancouver's contract was in a class by itself if you look at only the money."

Our View:Of couse he also hasn't ruled out heading to Montreal or simply retiring either. He will make a decision at the end of July or early August.
July 20, 2008
Mats Sundin's Swedish based representative Claes Elefalk denies a report from a Swedish newspaper that claims Sundin signed a deal with the Canucks, according to TSN.

Our View:While the Canucks remain one of the team's that Sundin is considering, he has yet to make a decision as to whether or not he will play next season.
July 4, 2008
The Montreal Canadiens and general manager Bob Gainey still believe they can land free agent Mats Sundin, according to Slam! Sports.

Our View:Sundin is taking his time deciding whether or not he even wants to play this season. If he does, he is a top fantasy player, as he put up 32 goals and 46 assists last season, and has a +/- of +17.
July 2, 2008
Mats Sundin could be considering retirement, according to the AP. Sundin said, "I spent a great deal of time reflecting upon the teams who stepped forward and the opportunities that each provided. Unfortunately, I am simply not close to being ready to make a decision about resuming my career at this time." He added, "I would like to thank all the teams who have expressed such sincere interest in my services. The numerous options provided to me were impressive, and I have no doubt that each one presented a unique opportunity for me to finish my career in a terrific hockey environment. I wish all the teams the very best and thank them for their interest."

Our View:Sundin is reportedly drawing interest from as many as four different teams, and the Canucks are said to have offered him a two-year, $20-million deal.
July 1, 2008
Mats Sundin still hasn't decided if he will play in the upcoming season, but that hasn't stopped the Vancouver Canucks from offering him a massive 2-year, $20 million deal, according to TSN.

Our View:Apparently three other teams have already made offers to Sundin who is still in Sweden pondering his future. Stay tuned.
July 1, 2008
Mats Sundin has yet to decide which team he will play for in the coming season as he hasn't even yet decided if he will continue his NHL career, according to the Toronto Star. "Mats has made no decision on whether he will play next year," agent J.P. Barry said last night. "He needs more time to decide if he will play or not. As a result, he has informed Montreal and Toronto that he cannot make any decisions or commitments at this time."

Our View:Sundin will become an unrestricted free agent at noon, but this is clearly a case of a player who is unsure of his future, not one looking for better bargaining power. We will continue to monitor his progress until a decision is reached.
June 28, 2008
Veteran forward and future Hall of Fame skater Mats Sundin may be giving a long, hard line of thought to becoming a Montreal Canadien, according to the Toronto Star.

Our View:Sundin was to talk with his agent J.P. Barry and Montreal general manager Bob Gainey yesterday in what was expected to be a decision-making day. It would have been the second such discussion this week. The Habs, who gained Toronto's approval for negotiating rights with Sundin until the July 1 free agent period starts, hope Sundin will be part of their 100th anniversary celebrations next season -- if they can sign him. However there was no word out of the Sundin camp yesterday. The Leafs also indicated they received no word from their captain.
June 26, 2008
The Leafs are expected to talk to Mats Sundin before July 1, according to TSN.ca. GM Cliff Fletcher said, "We will talk to him absolutely. The reason why we gave Montreal the rights to talk to him was because they were the team from what we could gather, a team that Mats would always consider as an alternative to Toronto."

Our View:Sundin still has enough left in the tank to be a solid starter, as he notched 78 points over 74 games in 2007-08, but he will take his time regarding a decision on his playing future.
June 24, 2008
Mats Sundin is believed to be on the Rangers' radar, according to the NY Post. Glen Sather is considering a go-for-broke tandem of Sundin and Jaromir Jagr in 2008-09.

Our View:Sundin previously commented that New York is his preferred destination. If the 37-year old Sundin does land with the Rangers, then Chris Drury would likely move from his front-line center spot out to the wing.
June 22, 2008
Recent quotes from veteran forward Mats Sundin have suggested the future Hall of Famer may be interested in finishing his career outside of Toronto, and those words have gotten the attention of the Montreal Canadiens, according to the Toronto Star.

Our View:The Star reports Canadiens GM Bob Gainey will travel to Sweden to court Sundin later this week (believed to be meeting on Wednesday). The Maple Leafs remain hopeful of insuring Sundin finishes his career in the same jersey he's worn for so long, but there is going to be a nice bidding war to get the deal sealed. Stay tuned.
June 20, 2008
Mats Sundin will speak with a Canadian team about his 2008 employment status but it won't be his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs that he will be speaking with but the hated Montreal Canadiens, according to the Associated Press. “At this point Mats still hasn’t decided if he wants to play, let alone where,” said Sundin’s agent, J.P. Barry. “But obviously the Leafs are trying to facilitate a decision.”

Our View:Wow. We have to give the Leafs a lot of credit here letting the soon to be unrestricted free agent and future Hall of Famer talk to their arch-rivals. This is a new twist, one that we didn't see coming, and adds another level of intrigue to the upcoming free agent period.
June 16, 2008
Mats Sundin will not be leaving his home in Toronto to join the Red Wings, that is if you believe the words of Wings star Henrik Zetterberg, according to the Detroit Free Press. "My gut says he'll be back with the Leafs."

Our View:Sundin is an unrestricted free agent and given the plethora of Swedes on the Wings it's only natural that Detroit would surface as a possible destination. Wherever Sundin ends up he will likely be roughly a point-per-game scorer, so keep an eye on his destination as it will have a hugely beneficial impact on those players who are fortunate enough to end up on his line.
June 10, 2008
Ron Wilson has been introduced as the new head coach of the Maple Leafs on Tuesday, according to SI.com.

Our View:The 53-year old coach was fired last month by the Sharks following the team's exit to the Stars in the second round of the playoffs. Wilson has also previously coached the Ducks and Capitals, and served parts of three seasons as a player with the Leafs in the 1970's.
June 10, 2008
Mats Sundin's agent thinks his client will continue to play and not opt for retirement, according to the Toronto Star.

Our View:Sundin is yet to voice his thoughts regarding new Toronto coach Ron Wilson. If he continues to play but doesn't return to the Leafs, Ottawa and Detroit have come up as speculated destinations, among a few others. Sundin can still play at a high level, as he scored 78 points over 74 games in 2007-08.
May 31, 2008
Toronto hockey icon and veteran skater Mats Sundin , days after suggesting he is interested in hearing what the open NHL market has to offer, may be heavily pursued by the Detroit Red Wings, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:League sources report both the Red Wings and the Canadiens have contacted agent J.P. Barry, Sundin's man, to inquire about contract negotiations, and those in the know realize Detroit is a safe haven for veterans to come and make that last run at a Cup. The Wings are currently pushing the Pittsburgh Penguins for this year's Stanley Cup, an effort built largely on the mixture of strong young stars and proven veterans from Sundin's NHL class (i.e. Chris Chelios and Nicklas Lidstrom). Sundin is set to become a free agent on July 1st and the Wings have the cap space to make the move.
May 28, 2008
Toronto's Mats Sundin , the team captain and long-time Maple Leaf great, has hinted that he might have interest in employment options outside of Toronto, according to SLAM Sports.

Our View:Sundin was accepting the league's Mark Messier Leadership Award and spoke with the press, stating he believes he has several options to explore, also stating that he had concerns about being able to reach an agreement with the Maple Leafs moving forward. Sundin, who earned $5.5 million last season, refused to waive his no-trade clause in February, blocking an apparent trade to Montreal. The Canadiens, it's believed, would have interest in him again should Sundin be available July 1. The Detroit Red Wings are another club rumored to have some interest.
May 28, 2008
Mats Sundin is the winner of the 2007-08 Mark Messier Leadership Award, TSN.ca reports. "The truest test of leadership comes during periods of adversity," Messier explains. "When presented with difficult times during the season, Mats Sundin remained committed to his teammates, his community and to the game of hockey."

Our View:Congrats, Mats. This news has no bearing on his fantasy value, of course.
May 7, 2008
The Maple Leafs have decided to fire HC Paul Maurice, according to TSN. "Since the season ended we've spent considerable time evaluating our organization and how best to move it forward," new GM Cliff Fletcher said. "Paul has been in a difficult position for several months. Making this decision now also provides the best opportunity for Paul to pursue all options potentially open to him."

Our View:The Leafs went 76-66-22 in his two years at the helm, but Maurice's inability to get the team to the playoffs this past season signaled a deathblow to his wish to stay with the team. This will be an off-season of tremendous change in Toronto.
April 7, 2008
Many believe that Mats Sundin's career with the Maple Leafs is over, but don't count his coach as someone in that camp, this according to TSN. "My feeling on him is that he's more valuable to this franchise today than maybe at any other point because he has to be the light for this team going forward." Toronto is a hockey mad city akin to New York for baseball, and as such every little issue is scrutinized. The bottom line is that the coach wants him back, Sundin wants to be back, and he can still score. So why won't he come back? The only answer would appear to be money.
April 2, 2008
Mats Sundin may have played his last game as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, this according to a report in the Toronto Star. Likely out of action for the teams final two games due to a groin injury, Sundin wants to end his career in Toronto, though it remains unclear if the team will chose to bring him back. No matter how old he becomes, it seems like no one can stop Sundin from racking up the points. No matter where he ends up next season, it's almost impossible to think he will fail to score at least 70 points since he does so every year.
April 1, 2008
Mats Sundin is out for Tuesday and potentially longer due to his torn groin muscle, according to the Toronto Star. Sundin tore a groin muscle on March 12, and then was on the shelf for the next five games. He returned for two games, but clearly was not up to par. He’s now shut it down, possibly for the rest of the season. Sundin scored 78 points over 74 games this season and is a tough loss for Toronto.
March 27, 2008
TSN.ca reported on Thursday morning that the Leafs may receive a boost as a Toronto radio station is reporting Mats Sundin will be back on ice tonight. The report noted that according to the station, AM 640, Sundin is ready to go after missing five games with a groin injury. Sundin, with 77 points on the season, is an obvious key piece in both the reality and fantasy hockey realm.
March 24, 2008
Mats Sundin missed practice on Monday and will not play Tuesday night when the Leafs face off against the Bruins, this according to Sportsnet.ca. It will be the fifth straight game that Sundin has missed to a groin injury. In 72 games this season, Sundin has 32 goals and 45 assists.
March 23, 2008

March 21, 2008
Mats Sundin skated for about 30 minutes before Friday's practice, according to TSN.ca. Although he won't play in tonight's contest and is doubtful for Saturday, he said his groin injury is getting better. We could see the future Hall of Famer back in the lineup next week.
March 20, 2008
Mats Sundin appears to be out for Friday's game against Buffalo and possibly Saturday when the team faces off against Ottawa, this according to TSN.ca. Sundin has missed two games since leaving a March 12 game in Philadelphia with a groin injury. "Not overly optimistic," Leafs head coach Paul Maurice said Thursday after practice. "It's not improving as quickly as we had hoped." Sundin, one of the league leaders in points scored is key to the Leafs' offense.
March 20, 2008
Mats Sundin could miss Friday and Saturday's games due to his groin tear, according to TSN.ca. The Leafs have must win games against Buffalo and Ottawa, but Coach Maurice stated, "We're not overly optimistic. It's not improving as quickly as we had hoped. Maybe we were overly hoping that it would get better faster. I'm not optimistic that he's going to be in this weekend." This continues to be a huge loss as Sundin is the leader of the Leafs and scored 77 points over 72 games.
March 18, 2008
Mats Sundin, who suffered groin injury March 12 in Philadelphia, will be inactive Tuesday night with what the team is calling a torn groin muscle, according to the Toronto Sun. The Leafs "hope" to have Sundin back by in the lineup by the weekend for their rematch against the Sabres in Buffalo on Friday. Coach Paul Maurice revealed yesterday that Sundin has a slight groin tear, an injury that normally takes at least 10-14 days to heal. Sundin skated for about 22 minutes prior to the Leafs practice at Lakeshore Lions Arena yesterday but isn't ready to take the ice at full speed.
March 16, 2008
Mats Sundin skipped Saturday's game due to a strained groin and likely will not play Tuesday, either, according to the Toronto Star. He was able to skate some Saturday, which is a good sign, but you'll want to keep him benched until we hear something more positive.
March 15, 2008
Mats Sundin will not take part in Saturday's game due to his strained groin, according to the CP. "We're going to try to manage it," coach Paul Maurice said after the morning skate. "This is a one game thing we (hope). If it's not, we're going to have to find a way to win without him." Get the veteran benched and hope he can return to action quickly.
March 14, 2008
Following a report from earlier in the week, Mats Sundin is listed as questionable for the Maple Leafs' battle with the Buffalo Sabres, according to SLAM Sports. Sundin suffered a groin strain earlier this week against the Philadelphia Flyers. He was able to leave the ice under his own power, but his status moving forward remains a questions mark.
March 12, 2008
Mats Sundin had to leave Wednesday's game after suffering a muscle strain in the second period, according to SportsTicker. We'll update you on the future Hall of Famer's status when more is known.
March 11, 2008
Mats Sundin scored his 32nd goal of the season, bringing the crafty veteran to a grand total of 75 points on the season. Sundin is among league leaders in multiple offensive categories again this season and continues to provide fantasy owners with as much value as one could hope to wean from a 37-year-old hockey great.
March 1, 2008
Mats Sundin recorded a goal and two helpers as the Maple Leafs beat the Capitals 3-2 on Saturday night. Sundin now has more points than games played. In 67 contests on the season, the Leafs' center has 29 goals and 41 assists.
February 27, 2008
Mats Sundin scored twice and added an assist in the Maple Leafs 4-3 shutout win over the Panthers. Sundin has six goals in his last 10 games for the Leafs, and he finishes the month with 10 points in 12 games, the fifth straight double-digit scoring month for Sundin.

Mats Sundin isn't going anywhere. After careful consideration, the future Hall of Famer has decided that he will not waive his no-trade clause. "I cannot leave my teammates and join another NHL Club at this time," Sundin said on TSN.ca. "I have never believed in the concept of a rental player. It is my belief that winning the Stanley Cup is the greatest thing you can achieve in hockey but for me, in order to appreciate it you have to have been part of the entire journey and that means October through June. I hope everyone will understand and respect my decision." Mats is on his usual point-per-game pace this year and would've been a great addition to any playoff-bound team, but his heart couldn't let him leave Toronto.

Mats Sundin reportedly was asked by Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher to provide a list of teams for which he'd consider playing, according to the Toronto Star. Fletcher hasn't asked Sundin to waive his no-trade clause and said that if Sundin ends up being dealt, the move would come well before Tuesday's trade deadline. Obviously, Sundin would have to waive the clause to be traded anywhere, and Sundin so far has given no inkling that he would do so. Nonetheless, you can expect the rumors to fly right up to the deadline.

Mats Sundin met Thursday with Cliff Fletcher, who was hoping to persuade the veteran star to waive his no-trade clause so he can be dealt for prospects or draft picks, according to the Toronto Star. It sounds like Sundin hasn't changed his tune, though. "There's nothing really to talk about," he said. "My position hasn't changed. I want to stay here and that's about it." Sundin currently has a one-year deal, so even if he were dealt away, he could re-sign with the Leafs next season if he wished. The two sides agreed to not discuss it further in public, so all we'll get before the deadline are rumors, though it sounds like he's staying put.
