Semyon Varlamov only stopped 23-of-26 shots in tonight's 4-3 shootout loss to the Stars at the Verizon Center.

Our View:Varlamov has now given up 13 goals over his last three starts. He still holds a solid 13-2-3 record though, as he has the luxury of playing for one of the very best offensive teams in the NHL.

Expect Semyon Varlamov to start at net for Washington against Dallas on Monday night, according to the Washington Post's Tarik El-Bashir.

Our View:Varlamov wasn't too great his last time out on Thursday night, though he has been pretty good when healthy this season. Playing for a team like Washington, he's a must-start whenever he's expected to be on the ice.
March 4, 2010
Semyon Varlamov only stopped 25-of-29 shots in tonight's 5-4 win over the Lightning at the Verizon Center.

Our View:Varlamov was not sharp, but his teammates provided enough offensive support for him to collect his 13th win of the season. He holds an unimpressive 2.53 goals-against average for the season.

The Capitals have recalled Semyon Varlamov (knee) from the AHL, according to Sportsnet.ca.

Our View:Varlamov's knee appears to be fine, as he stopped 30-of-31 shots in a 2-1 shootout win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins yesterday. Look for him to take on an immediate role with Washington.

Semyon Varlamov has been sent down to AHL Hershey by the Capitals, according to TSN.

Our View:Varlamov has fared well this season prior to suffering a knee injury, with a 12-2-2 record and 2.44 goals-against average over 17 games (15 starts). He should be back if he proves to be healthy and effective during his stint in the minors.
February 11, 2010
Out since December 7 with a knee injury, Semyon Varlamov will finally be back in goal for the Capitals on Thursday, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:Before going down, he was a breathtaking 12-1-2 with a .924 save percentage. The Caps have had no problem winning without him, as evidenced by their recent 14-game winning streak, but his return is still obviously great news.

The Capitals have recalled Semyon Varlamov (knee) from his conditioning stint in the AHL, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:There's no word yet on whether Varlamov will get the call for tomorrow's game at Montreal, though it seems like a good bet that he'll get at least one start over Washington's three remaining games before the Olympic break. Varlamov, who's been out since Dec. 7, was a fantastic 12-1-2 prior to getting hurt while posting a 2.21 GAA and .924 save percentage and should regain his starting role over Jose Theodore and Michal Neuvirth before long.

Contrary to previous reports that he would be skating, Semyon Varlamov (knee) did not participate in Washington's practice on Monday, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:Varlamov's pending return continues to get pushed back. He should be back somewhat soon, though Jose Theodore and Michal Neuvirth will continue to split time between the pipes for now.
January 22, 2010
Semyon Varlamov (knee), who has been off-the-ice for about a week and out of the lineup for nearly six weeks, will resume skating on Monday, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:Varlamov's recovery from his knee injury has turned into a full-fledged soap opera, and it is completely unclear as to when he might finally rejoin the Caps lineup. In the meantime, Jose Theodore and Michal Neuvirth will continue to man the fort in Washington.
January 14, 2010
According to the Washington Post, goaltender Semyon Varlamov has been upgraded to day-to-day as he appears close to returning from knee and groin injuries.

Our View:Varlamov has been out with the groin injury since December 7th and then sprained his MCL during his rehab stint. He's apparently getting better with each passing day though, so prepare to activate the elite netminder in fantasy leagues very soon.
January 7, 2010
The Washington Post reports that Semyon Varlamov has suffered an MCL sprain while rehabbing his injured groin in AHL Hershey, and has had his return to the Capitals pushed back yet again.

Our View:The 12-1-2 Varlamov has been out since December 7. The Caps have gone just 7-6-0 without him. Supposedly, he will be ready to return by next week. Stay tuned.

Semyon Varlamov (lower-body injury) reportedly suffered a minor injury while making a rehab start with AHL Hershey over the weekend, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:The injury is being classified as a "minor setback." Sounds like we may be in store for one more week of Michal Neuvirth in Washington. Stay tuned.
