Steve Mason got shredded by the Red Wings on Thursday. He allowed six goals on 41 shots and his Blue Jackets were eliminated from post season play in four quick games.

Our View:Mason was so good in the regular season and will likely win the Calder Trophy as the NHL's best rookie, but he was brutalized by the Red Wings devastating offense in the playoffs. It's a tough task for any goalie to shut down the Red Wings, but Mason looked like a different player in the last four games.

NHL.com is reporting that Steve Mason has been named as a finalist for the Calder Trophy, which is given to the most outstanding rookie in the NHL each season. The other finalists for the award are Anaheim's Bobby Ryan and Chicago's Kris Versteeg.

Our View:Mason is the heavy favorite to be named the Rookie of the Year, as he posted an NHL leading ten shutouts during the regular season while leading Columbus to their first playoff appearance in franchise history. Unfortunately, he is struggling in the first round against Detroit, and his team is 0-3.

Steve Mason allowed four goals on Saturday as Detroit peppered him with 39 shots in their 4-0 victory. Mason was tagged with his second straight loss and the Red Wings now lead the series 2-0.

Our View:Arguably the game's best rookie in the 2008-09 season, Mason struggled a bit down the stretch and appeared to carry that streak with him into the post season. Fatigue will be called into question constantly now, as he's allowed eight goals in the Jackets' two playoff games and they appear headed for an early exit.
