Andrei Kostsitsyn signed a 3-year deal to remain with the Canadiens on Tuesday, according to TSN. The deal is for $3.25 million a year for the former restricted free agent.

Our View:Kostsitsyn came alive in the playoffs with five goals and eight points in 12 games, this after a breakout campaign of 27 goals for the former 10th overall selection (2003). Kostsitsyn figures to skate as at top-6 forward next season, one that should challenge the 30-goal mark.

Andrei Kostsitsyn was one of six Canadiens who received qualifying offers on Wednesday, according to TSN. The others were forwards Mikhail Grabovski and Corey Locke, defencemen Josh Gorges and Ryan O'Byrne and goaltender Jaroslav Halak.

Our View:By extending these players offers, the Canadiens are able to match any offers that the restricted free agents receive from other teams. Look for the team to push hard to re-sign all six, especially Kostsitsyn who emerged this year with a solid season and playoffs in his first year in Montreal.

The Canadiens and Andrei Kostsitsyn have been discussing a new contract, the Montreal Gazette reports. The 23-year-old forward had a breakout season with 53 points over 78 games, and he is due to become a restricted free agent.

Our View:Kostsitsyn was a quality fantasy forward from December through the end of the season (45 points, 57 games), and we imagine the Habs are doing their best to keep him around.
