The Tampa Bay Lightning have granted defenseman Paul Ranger an indefinite leave of absence to deal with a personal matter, according to the Associated Press. Ranger has a goal and an assist in eight games this season.

Our View:The team would not elaborate on the extent of the personal matter, but Ranger missed Saturday's game for the same reason. There has been no return date set, so we will update you when he reports back to the team.

According to the Sports Ticker, Tampa Bay defenseman Paul Ranger will undergo surgery on his shoulder March 3. Teammate Andrej Maszaros will undergo the same procedure on the same date.

Our View:Ranger, who GM Brian Lawton said has been playing with the injury for a majority of the season, will have surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder by Dr. James Andrew, in Birmingham, Alabama.
