Mark Streit has inked a five-year deal with the Islanders worth $20.5 million, according to TSN.ca.

Our View:Streit was a top priority for the Canadiens, but the Islanders ultimately snatched him away. The talented defenseman scored 13 goals and 49 assists (62 points) over 81 games with Montreal in 2007-08.

Mark Streit is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, according to The Montreal Gazette. He said, "I love Montreal and I'm hoping to stay here for three, four, five more seasons. I know I'll get offers, but I'm hoping to stay here. Montreal gave me a chance to play and I'm happy here. Anyone who knows me, knows that the most important thing for me is to be happy."

Our View:He is eligible to become unrestricted free agent on July 1. And he's the top priority on GM Bob Gainey's must-do list. Streit has the versatility to be play defense or forward, and contributed 13 goals and 49 assists over 81 games this season.

Mark Streit, out with an injured hip, doesn't appear likely to play in Game 6, this according to TSN. Streit was unable to skate on Friday and will be a game-time decision at best.

Our View:Streit is a big loss on the blueline for the Habs, but with the possible return of Saku Koivu, at least the Canadiens will have another source of offense to help pick up the slack.
