The AP reports that the Anaheim Ducks on Friday assigned right wing Bobby Ryan - the second overall pick in the 2005 draft - to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Iowa Chops.

Our View:Ryan was selected by the Ducks after Pittsburgh chose Sidney Crosby first overall but has yet to come anywhere near the achievements of the Penguins’ superstar captain. Ryan recorded 21 goals and 28 assists in 48 games for the Portland Pirates of the AHL last season. The 21-year-old also notched five tallies and 10 points in 23 contests with the Ducks. He will probably be the first player called up should one of the Ducks' right wingers go down this season.

Bobby Ryan scored twice and added an assist in Anaheim's 6-4 victory over San Jose on Wednesday.

Our View:Ryan, the second overall pick on the 2005 draft behind Sidney Crosby, scored on Anaheim’s first shot of the game. He had two stints with the Ducks last season as a rookie, recording five goals and five assists in 23 games. The 21-year-old right wing is making a case to stick on the roster in the preseason.

Bobby Ryan was assigned to Portland of the AHL on Friday as the Ducks try to shake up their lineup to avoid losing to the Stars in the first round, this according to the AP.

Our View:Ryan skated in two playoff games without a point, in fact his only contribution on the scoresheet was a two-minute penalty. Ryan, the second overall pick in the 2005 draft has a luminous future, but that future will apparently not start until next season for the Ducks.
