Philadelphia defenseman Braydon Coburn reports he is still dealing with health issues that may prove worrisome as the Flyers continue to battle with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference finals, but he will be on the ice and playing today in Game 5, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View:Coburn was struck in the face by a puck in Game 2, and after practicing with the team yesterday, he told reporters he was still struggling with depth perception and the feel of a his newly-needed visor. Coach John Stevens is going to leave the decision to play to Coburn, and it sounds like he's going to give it his best. "I'm dealing with some things with the eye and stuff like that and every day it's been getting better, and tomorrow I will evaluate it again," said Coburn. "Yeah, there's a good chance I will play."

Braydon Coburn's playing status for Sunday's Game 5 depends solely on when the severe swelling around his left eye subsides, according to the Baltimore Sun. He has been out since the opening minutes of Game 2 when he was struck by a deflected shot.

Our View:The Flyers are on the verge of elimination, and Coburn will fight hard to make it onto the ice for Game 5. The Flyers trail the Penguins 3-1 in the series.

Braydon Coburn hopes to be able to play in Game 5 after being forced to the press box because of an injury to his eye, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Nothing is certain at this point, but with the Flyers in do or die mode you know that Coburn is pushing hard to prove to the team that he is healthy enough to play.

Braydon Coburn has been ruled out after his swollen left eye didn’t show enough improvement, according to the AP. Coburn was struck in the face by a puck in the opening minutes of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference final last Sunday and sat out Tuesday when the Flyers lost to the Penguins. Coburn didn’t break any bones, but severe swelling forced his left eye to close. He practiced on Wednesday and hoped to play in Game 4. Coach John Stevens said, "He got on the ice a little bit, but still not ready to play. I think he’s getting closer, but definitely not playing tonight."

Our View:The Flyers are down 3-0, and the team will also be without fellow enforcer Kimmo Timonen due to a blood clot in his ankle. Earlier in the day Coburn said he expected to play in Game 4, but that was merely just tough-guy talk. Ryan Parent will take Coburn's spot in the lineup.

Braydon Coburn is listed as doubtful to play in Game 3 against the Penguins, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Coburn suffered a severe laceration of his left eye that required more than 50 stitches to close Sunday night in the Flyers' loss in Pittsburgh. Team GM Paul Holmgren said, "Everything checked out OK. The only issue now is the swelling around his eye. That is the concern we have right now moving forward. Everything in and around his eye is fine. That's good news. He will still be listed as doubtful for the game tonight."

Our View:The team is also without enforcer Kimmo Timonen due to a blood clot in his left ankle. He and Coburn combined for the Flyers best shut-down duo, and the Flyers will have a hard time climbing back in the series against the Penguins with them both on the shelf, as the team currently trails 2-0.

Braydon Coburn sustained a facial injury during battle with the Penguins on Sunday, and his eye and nose are reportedly a mess, but he is "possible" to play in Game 3, according to FanNation. Coburn required more than 50 stitches to close a gash around his left eye and near his nose after Evgeni Malkin deflected a shot from Sergei Gonchar under his face shield just one minute, 41 seconds into the opening period of Sunday's 4-2 loss for Philadelphia.

Our View:The enforcer chipped in six assists through the playoffs, and the team will need his toughness if they are going to come back from a 2-0 hole in the series.

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Braydon Coburn was struck in the face with a shot by Pittsburgh's Hal Gill early in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals Sunday night, according to the AP. The Flyers are playing the series without their top defenseman, Kimmo Timonen, who has a blood clot on his left ankle that developed in Game 4 of the second round against Montreal.

Our View:Gill took a shot from the left point that apparently deflected off Evgeni Malkin's stick and struck Coburn near the left eye less than two minutes into the first period. Coburn dropped to the ice, bleeding, but soon got up without assistance and went to the dressing room with a towel held to his face. The game was delayed for about a minute to wipe the blood from the ice.

Braydon Coburn scored a goal and added an assist in the Flyers seventh straight loss on Sunday night. After totaling just 12 points in his first 58 games over three seasons, Coburn has broken out this year to the tune of 26 points in 55 games for the Flyers. Add in his 50 PIM and he is quickly becoming a possible 4th defensemen in very deep leagues.

Braydon Coburn, who is recovering from a ruptured artery and pulled muscle in his left buttock, skated on Thursday and reported that he was "sore" on Friday, according to Philly.com. "He's close to a return, possibly this weekend," coach John Stevens told the paper.

The injury Braydon Coburn suffered Saturday was more serious than a torn muscle in his left buttock, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Test revealed that Coburn had suffered a torn artery, which is a first the first time Flyers head coach Paul Holmgren has heard of such an injury. Coburn is expected to be sidelined for about two weeks and will be replaced in the lineup by Lasse Kukkonen.

Braydon Coburn will be sidelined for a couple of weeks after injuring his buttocks on Saturday night. Coburn has already undergone surgery on the muscle and will be replaced in the lineup by Lasse Kukkonen. Coburn had been a solid depth play this season with 24 points, a +11 and 50 PIM, so his loss will be felt on the Flyers blueline. Kukkonen has been a healthy scratch the past 14 games, so don't look for the same numbers to come from Coburn's replacement. Philadelphia Daily News
