As anticipated, the Tampa Bay Lightning have signed newly- acquired defenseman Andrej Meszaros to a six-year contract, according to the Sports Network. Meszaros was acquired from Ottawa on Friday in exchange for defensemen Filip Kuba and Alexandre Picard, as well as a first-round draft pick in 2009. Terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed.

Our View:Meszaros posted nine goals and 36 points in 82 games for Ottawa last season. Over a three-year NHL career, all with the Sens, the native of Slovakia has recorded 26 goals, 110 points and 213 penalty minutes in 246 contests. He has yet to miss a game in his career.

Andrej Meszaros has been dealt from the Senators to the Lightning in exchange for defensemen Filip Kuba and Alexandre Picard, as well as the Sharks' first round pick that was previously acquired in the Dan Boyle deal, according to TSN.

Our View:Sources add that Meszaros is expected to sign a six-year contract with the Lightning averaging $4 million a season. Six of his nine goals in 2007-08 came on the power play, and should help the Lightning in that area.

Andrej Meszaros was rumored to have a signed a contact in the excess of $5 million with other NHL team, but as of now no formal papers have been filed with the NHL, according to Sun Media. The Tampa Bay Lightning said that they would pursue Meszaros if the Senators did not trade him to the Bolts.

Our View:Based on the rumored salary and if it is the Lightning, the Senators would receive a first, second and third-round picks.

Andrej Meszaros and the Senators continue to talk but movement toward finalizing a deal for the young defensemen continues to be elusive, according to TSN. "We've tried to make presentations with a variety of offers and terms, but they've been rejected at this point and time," GM Bryan Murray said.

Our View:Andrej apparently wants around $4.5 million while the team is offering $3.5, hence the impasse. At this point the team still hopes that they can work a deal out and they have been steadfast in their view that they will not trade the defenseman.

Andrej Meszaros is at home in Slovakia preparing for the start of Senators training next month, but while the defenseman intends to sign a deal with Ottawa and report for duty on September 16th for medicals at Scotiabank Place, the two sides still have a bridge to gap in contract negotiations to ensure that Meszaros is going to be at training camp, according to SLAM Sports.

Our View:Summer-long talks between Meszaros' camp and Senators GM Bryan Murray to get a deal done have been fruitless despite hours of discussions. It's believed the Senators have offered a contract in the range of $3.5 million (all terms US) a season on a long-term deal, but Meszaros is likely looking at something closer to the $4.5 million per year that Shea Weber received on a three-year deal with the Predators this summer.

Signing forward Antoine Vermette to a two-year deal leaves defenseman Andrej Meszaros as the only remaining unsigned player, but the Ottawa Citizen reports the team and the restricted free agent are still far apart in negotiations.

Our View:The Senators have about $6.5M in available cap space, so they are not in danger of losing Meszaros to another team if he signs an offer sheet because they would quickly match it. The 22-year-old defenseman reportedly turned down a big offer from a Russian team earlier this summer, according to the Ottawa Sun. Meszaros wants a deal like Lightning D Matt Carle's four-year, $13.2M contract, according to the Sun.

Andrej Meszaros, a restricted free agent, is on the radar of teams such as the Blue Jackets, Thrashers and Canucks, according to Slam Sports.

Our View:Meszaros, a 22-year-old defenseman, had a good season for the Senators, and the former first-round draft pick will only get better, regardless of the team he lands with. Fantasy owners should have him on their radar as well, as Meszaros puts up quality offensive numbers, especially on the power play, where he scored six goals and had 10 assists in 2007-2008.

Andrej Meszaros has rejected a lucrative offer to play in Russia next season, according to the Ottawa Sun. He has no interest in leaving the NHL, and can become a restricted free agent on July 1. But there has been constructive talks with Senators' GM Bryan Murray about a new contract, and it remains optimistic that he can remain in Ottawa.

Our View:The 21-year defenseman is said to be on the Flyers' radar, and Philadelphia GM Paul Holmgren has already approached Murray about dealing for Meszaros, however.
