Alexander Ovechkin was named a finalist for the Hart Trophy awarded each year to the league MVP.

Our View:The odds on favorite for the award, Ovechkin lead the lead in goals (65), points (112), power-play goals (22) and game-winning goals (11). He also established an all-time record for goals by a LW in a season, and given the paucity of talent on his squad he obviously was a major reason that the Caps made the playoffs.

Alexander Ovechkin has been named a finalist for the Hart Trophy, according to TSN.ca. The prize honors the NHL's most valuable player. Jarome Iginla (98 points over 82 games) and Evgeni Malkin (106 points over 82 games) are the other nominees.

Our View:Ovechkin scored 65 goals and 47 assists (112 points) over 82 games in the regular season and is considered the favorite to claim the prize.

Washington LW Alexander Ovechkin may have enjoyed a wondrous season to remember, but his efforts fell short this evening as the Capitals fell 3-2 in overtime to the Philadelphia Flyers, ending the seven-game first-round series as the Flyers move on to face the Montreal Canadiens.

Our View:Ovechkin netted one goal and one assist, putting a full barrage of shots (nine in all) on the net but finding frustration and loss at the end of the evening.
