November 26, 2008
Mike Smith has been slated to start Wednesday's game in goal against the Rangers, according to the Tampa Tribune. He has recovered from his minor lower-body injury.

Our View:He has only registered one win over his last four outings, but still holds a solid .932 save percentage and 2.35 goals-against average for the season. Feel free to pencil him back into fantasy lineups.
November 23, 2008
Mike Smith is being held out of Sunday's match-up with New Jersey while nursing a minor lower-body injury, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Our View:It is a nagging ailment that has bothered Smith for several games, but the club indicates that it is not serious. Olaf Kolzig is starting between the pipes in his place.
November 21, 2008
Mike Smith stopped 34-of-35 shots in Friday's 4-1 win over Nashville.

Our View:Smith snapped a three-game skid without a win, and improves to 5-4-5 for the season.
November 16, 2008
Lightning goalie Mike Smith stopped 28 of the 30 shots that came his way during regulation and overtime, but he let in two goals during the shootout and lost to Carolina, 3-2.

Our View:Smith continues his excellent play, and if Tampa were able to put the puck in the net with more frequency, he would have more than four wins.
November 8, 2008
Mike Smith made 34 saves for the Lightning to lift the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night.

Our View:Smith is only 4-3-3 but has put up very good numbers this season.
November 8, 2008
Mike Smith will be the goaltender for the Lightning on Saturday when they take on the Flyers, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:Smith has been very good this year, despite his 3-3-3 record. Hi has a stellar .930 save percentage and 2.46 GAA. Olaf Kolzig will start on Monday for Tampa.
November 1, 2008
Goaltender Mike Smith will start on Saturday against Ottawa, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:Despite owning an impressive .942 save percentage and a 2.11 GAA, Smith is just 2-2-2 this season. Should he continue to play this well, expect his record to gradually reflect it.
October 21, 2008
Mike Smith finally registered a win in his fourth start, albeit an overtime decision. He stopped 31 of 33 saves in the victory.

Our View:Smith entered the game with a .944 save percentage and a 1.90 GAA yet was 0-1-2. He should fare better in the win column going forward.
October 20, 2008
Mike Smith is slated to make his fourth start between the pipes Tuesday against the Thrashers, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:Coach Barry Melrose cited Smith’s play in Saturday’s game against Minnesota in which he maintained a shutout, even though he didn’t get credit for the win after allowing a shootout goal to Antti Miettinen. Smith is yet to register a win, with two overtime losses, but holds a strong .944 save percentage with a 1.90 goals-against average.
October 18, 2008
Mike Smith will start in goal for the Lightning in their game on Saturday, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Our View:Smith has been very good in his two previous starts. Though he did not get the win in either contest, he has a .931 save percentage and GAA of 2.90.
October 4, 2008
Mike Smith was terrific in a losing effort Saturday, stopping 39-of-41 shots in a 2-1 loss to the Rangers.

Our View:Smith will likely lose some playing time to Olaf Kolzig this year, and he is playing on a bad team, but the guy has a lot of ability.
September 27, 2008
The Tampa Tribune reports that Mike Smith will be the lead goaltender ahead of Olaf Kolzig this season for the Lightning.

Our View:He got into 13 games for the Bolts at the end of last season after the big trade and the results were mixed. He had a 3-10 record, a shutout, and a 2.79 goals-against average, but those numbers are basically meaningless because of all the changes that have taken place since then. He's someone a calculated risk for the upcoming season.
September 23, 2008
Mike Smith had a nice game for the Lightning in their exhibition contest over the Rangers, stopping 38 of 40 shots.

Our View:Smith figures to be the team's backup behind Olaf Kolzig this year.
July 14, 2008
Mike Smith has signed a two-year extension with the Lightning, according to TSN. VP of hockey operations Brian Lawton said, "It goes without saying that Mike has a bright future in the Lightning organization. It is important in our plan to have locked up Mike, along with Ollie Kolzig, to solidify our goaltending situation this season and beyond."

Our View:Smith went 15-19 last season with time spent between Dallas and Tampa Bay, but held a good 2.59 GAA. He won't hold solid fantasy value next season, but should provide favorable depth behind Kolzig.
April 2, 2008
Mike Smith had the worst game of his young career as he allowed six goals on 32 shots to pick up his 18th loss of the season. Smith had allowed only four goals the past two games, though he has now lost four straight decisions and eight of his last 10 starts as he winds down an ineffective attempt to prove to the Bolts that he can be their starter next season.
March 31, 2008
Mike Smith stopped 22 of 23 shots on Monday night but it wasn't enough as the Bolts lost to the Thrashers. This was Smith's first game since March 22nd, he had been out with an injured knee, so it was nice to see him back on the ice. Just 3-8 since joining Tampa, Smith has posted a .905 save percentage in those 11 games as he attempts to establish himself as a NHL goalie.
March 25, 2008
Goalie Mike Smith will not be available for play this evening as the Lightning face the Florida Panthers, according to the Associated Press. Smith injured his left knee in practice on Monday. As a result, backup Karri Ramo was scheduled to start against the Panthers.
March 15, 2008

March 13, 2008
Mike Smith was a dominant force Thursday night as he stopped 35 of 36 shots in a 3-1 win over Boston. He has now evened his record to 14-14.
March 6, 2008
Mike Smith allowed three goals on 25 shots on Thursday night to fall to 1-4 as a member of the Lightning. Smith has allowed more than three goals only once in his five outings with the new club, but just as all Lightning goalies have come to learn this year, that usually isn't good enough to pick up a win.
February 27, 2008
In his first start as a member of the Lightning, Mike Smith stopped 24 of 27 shots in a 3-2 loss to the Wild. Smith didn't play poorly and figures to be a workhorse for the team down the stretch.
February 26, 2008
The Lightning picked up Mike Smith from the Stars Tuesday in the Richards deal. With Homlqvist also going to Dallas, Smith becomes the starter in Tampa. His fantasy value obviously goes up, though the quality of defense in front of him drops considerably.
February 9, 2008
Mike Smith, making his second straight start in place of an injured Marty Turco (neck), stopped 27 of 29 shots to pick up his 11th victory of the season. Word is that Turco isn't seriously injured, but the Stars konw they have a fine backup who can handle the work until Turco is able to go. Smith has now allowed only six goals in his last four starts.
