John-Michael Liles escaped serious injury on Saturday night when he took the butt end of a stick directly on his right eye, according to The Denver Post. "I couldn't see anything. It was all black," Liles said. "It was pretty tough for a few minutes." Eventually his vision returned and he should be well enough to play this week.

Our View:Another potential eye injury averted, though one must wonder if it should be mandatory for all skaters to wear face shields. Regardless, Liles should be healthy and ready to go as he sets on doubling his poor goal total of six from last season.

The Rocky Mountain News reports that John-Michael Liles is looking forward to a big season. Last season, trade rumors followed the defenseman most of the year but he turned it on after the deadline. Then, in June, he signed a four-year deal with Colorado.

Our View:After averaging 13 goals and 29 assists in his first three NHL seasons, the 27-year-old defenseman's offensive production fell to career lows for goals (six) and assists (26) while playing in 81 games last season.

John-Michael Liles, who led all Avs defensemen with 32 points (6-26) in 81 games last season, has signed a $16-million four-year contract with the team, this according to The Canadian Press. Liles recorded 20 of his 32 points on the power play and finished third on the club with 121 blocked shots.

Our View:He had five points (2-3) in 10 post-season games.

John-Michael Liles and the Avalanche have agreed to terms on a four-year deal worth slightly more than $4 million per season, TSN.ca reports. The defenseman put up 32 points in 81 games for the Avalanche last season.

Our View:Liles had a bit of a down fantasy year, but that may simply mean he comes at a discount prior to the 2008-09 campaign.
