Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said the team remains interested in signing Peter Forsberg to a contract. However, he admitted any such deal could be months away, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Forsberg's skating in Sweden, as he waits to decide whether he'll play in the NHL this season. Most likely, he will wait until later in the season before joining a contender. Forsberg's still dealing with his bum ankle and isn't likely up for the long haul of a full season.

The Maple Leafs are interested in Peter Forsberg, though the conditions would have to be almost perfect. Forsberg, coming off foot surgery, is no sure thing to play in the NHL again.

Predators GM David Poile is speculating that Peter Forsberg won't play in the NHL next year, according to the Nashville Tennessean. Poile's initial response to a question of whether he thought the Predators would re-sign Forsberg was, "Honestly, no." He then said he thought Forsberg was giving a lot of consideration to not returning to the NHL for the 2007-08 season.

"I'm ready to go — finally" Forsberg said. "It's been frustrating sitting on the bench this long, but now it's all healed up and that's all I care about." He returned to practice on Friday.

If healthy, Forsberg could be the player that elevates the Predators to favorite status in the Western Conference. The 33-year-old center becomes an unrestricted free agent after the season.

Peter Forsberg said he will not commit to re-signing or waiving his no-trade clause until his ailing right foot is better, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I said I wanted to stay," Forsberg said. "I wanted to get my foot fixed, and then I would think about my future. That is what I said all along. I don't know how [the foot] is going to feel. I am not 100 percent. I don't want to go through this again next year. It's been a tough year. I know how bad I have been playing for a while. It's nothing that I want to go through again." Nashville is reportedly the favorite to land Forsberg should Philly decide to deal him.

Peter Forsberg has been able to skate problem-free the past two games, but he flew to Montreal to meet with the Bauer skate people on Friday in the hopes of the getting a skate in the works that will help his troublesome right ankle, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. "This is just to continue the process of going through and trying to get a solution to the skate problem," GM Paul Holmgren said. "As I have said and Peter has said over the last few days, we feel we are very close, and Peter wanted to go up there and spend some time there today with the people there."
