Stars forward Sean Avery was back at the team's practice after being absent for two days due to an illness, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Our View:Avery is probably more well-known for his off-ice theatrics, whether it is dating Hollywood starlets or interning at a fashion magazine. Still, he is a cog in the Dallas machine that has value, amassing 154 PIM last season.
September 10, 2008
Sean Avery, the Stars noted tough guy with a predilection for fancy clothes, will apparently have his life story turned into a romantic comedy for New Line Cinema, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:Hide the women and children because we are sure that either (a) the sky is falling, or (b) the apocalypse is upon us. No word yet on if Avery will be in the film or if his ex, Elisha Cuthbert, will play the female lead.
July 2, 2008
Dallasnews.com reports that the Stars have signed Sean Avery to a four-year, $15.5 million deal.

Our View:This perennial badboy should add some attitude to the Dallas roster. Avery managed 15 goals and 18 assists last year in addition to his 154 penalty minutes, while playing for the New York Rangers.
June 22, 2008
The New York Rangers are apparently ready to move forward without Sean Avery , according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:Reports indicate Rangers GM Glen Sather spent time with Avery's agent, Pat Morris, on Saturday and, following that meeting, Morris let the press know that he is all but certain the Rangers will be unwilling to present a number that will keep Avery from testing the market as an unrestricted free agent. Free agency begins in 10 days and Avery is sure to garner interest, but the Rangers seem unwilling to agree on their desired number to secure him now.

Our View:Boarded at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York, Avery suffered a lacerated spleen on Tuesday night in Game 3 of the Rangers' Eastern Conference semifinal series against Pittsburgh. The hospital reports Avery is doing well and recovering quickly.
May 2, 2008
Sean Avery's internal bleeding resulting from a lacerated spleen stopped yesterday afternoon, according to Newsday. If the bleeding stops for a period of time, the forward will be moved out of the ICU.

Our View:Great news for Avery. Hopefully he'll make a full recovery and be ready for the start of next season.

Sean Avery remained in an intensive care unit Thursday, two days after his spleen was lacerated during battle with the Penguins, according to TSN.ca. Team spokesman John Rosasco stated, "He won't be removed from there until it stops bleeding, and it hasn't." He added that this is not a life-threatening situation.

Our View:The tough and scrappy pro is expected to make a full recovery.
April 30, 2008
Sean Avery sustained a lacerated spleen during Tuesday's loss to Pittsburgh, and reportedly also suffered a cardiac arrest, according to NBCsports.

Our View:He was taken to the hospital in cardiac arrest, and will be sidelined for the remainder of the post-season, but is expected to make a full recovery. Avery is a tough NHL warrior.

Sean Avery's actions have caused the league to install a new rule regarding conduct around the goalie. The Rangers forward waved his stick in front of Martin Brodeur on Sunday night, attempting to block the Devils goalie's vision. The NHL acted on Monday. "An unsportsmanlike conduct minor penalty will be interpreted and applied, effective immediately, to a situation when an offensive player positions himself facing the opposition goaltender and engages in actions such as waving his arms or stick in front of the goaltender’s face, for the purpose of improperly interfering with and/or distracting the goaltender as opposed to positioning himself to try to make a play," NHL director of hockey operations informs the AP.

Our View:It's a bit surprising that nobody thought of it before Avery.
April 13, 2008
Sean Avery is on a roll. He scored his third goal in as many playoff games on Sunday.

Our View:Avery is more known for penalty minutes than goals, but maybe he's developing a taste for putting the puck in the net.
April 11, 2008
Sean Avery scored his second goal of the playoffs on Friday night to help lead the Rangers to a 2-1 victory over the Devils. The Rangers now lead the series two games to none, and Avery is doing his best pest imitation getting under the skin of the Devils with his chirping, after the whistle ways.
April 10, 2008
Sean Avery may have been struck in the face by a puck in Game 1, but he returned to the ice and in the end he scored a goal, added an assist, and picked up a few stitches in the Rangers victory over the Devils. Avery is the type of skater everyone hates to face in the playoffs with his grating style, and throw in his offensive exploits and this might be the modern day Esa Tikkanen in New York.
March 18, 2008
Sean Avery scored two goals in the Rangers' 5-2 win over Pittsburgh. Avery had been on a bit of a cold spell but could see the start of more productive games ahead.
March 6, 2008
Sean Avery continued his amazing play of late with two goals on Thursday night. Producing his best contract drive play, Avery now has nine goals and 13 points in 17 games since the All-Star game during which time he is a +9 with 60 PIM. The Rangers can't afford to lose him, and with each passing game his price seems to go up so they might want to lock him up soon or face the real possibility of losing him this off-season.
February 28, 2008
Sean Avery scored a goal and tossed in 10 PIM on Thursday night in the Rangers victory. Avery has been a flat out stud in February as he has scored seven goals with 10 points in 12 games. Toss in a +8 and 35 PIM, and Avery has been one of the most well-rounded skaters in the NHL the past month.
February 23, 2008
Sean Avery scored a third period goal to lift the New York Rangers to a 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday. Avery's goal was his 10th in 38 games this season.
February 16, 2008

February 12, 2008
Rangers GM Glen Sather wants to sign free-agent-to-be Sean Avery to a contract extension soon, despite the fact that Avery is having a bit of a down year. "I talked to Sean last week about his contract, and he was down about the way he was playing," Sather told the NY Post. "He said he didn't think anyone would want to sign him. I told him that I did."
February 11, 2008
Sean Avery scored his sixth goal of the season Sunday in a losing overtime effort against the Capitals. It was his second goal in four games. The Rangers enforcer is not a top-tiered fantasy option in traditional formats, but in PIM leagues the right winger has value.
January 17, 2008
Sean Avery returned to action on Wednesday after missing time with an injured wrist. The AP reports that the team is 30-18-8 in games in which he has played since he was acquired last year.

Our View:Avery is a sparkplug for the Rangers and he’s also a quality fantasy play in that he accumulates a steady number of points and racks up a slew of penalty minutes.
