The Red Wings took a serious blow when the agent for Pavel Datsyuk informed them that his client's contract with a Russian team doesn't have an out-clause that would allow him to join the Red Wings, according to the Detroit News. That means Datsyuk will not play in Detroit this season. "That's the assumption we're operating under," GM Ken Holland said. "We're certainly going to look at all of our options, but we're under the assumption Pavel will not play with us this season."

The Red Wings don't appear to be getting any closer in negotiations with forward Pavel Datsyuk, and an agreement doesn't appear to be close, according to the Detroit News. "It's up to Ken Holland (Wings general manager) and myself to work on this and come to some sort of an agreement," Datsyuk's agent, Gary Greenstin, said. "It's a slow process. We're going to continue to work. As we've said, Pavel's first priority is to remain with the Wings."
