Pavel Datsyuk returned to the ice on Thursday for the first time in a week because of his sore groin, according to The Detroit News. "I want him to tell us he's 100 percent," GM Ken Holland said. "He's real close. We're having serious conversations about him playing this weekend. So there's no doubt, right now as I'm talking to you, I'm expecting 100 percent he's going to be in the lineup October the 9th against Toronto (for the regular-season opener)."

Our View:So there you go. Continue to draft Datsyuk as your top pivot man this season as he appears a virtual lock to record at least 85 points, a total he has reached in each of the last three seasons.

Pavel Datsyuk missed his fourth straight day of practice Tuesday due to his ailing groin, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:Coach Mike Babcock is uncertain when he will be ready to return to the ice. He could potentially miss the start of the season, and could prove to be a steal if he slips down draft boards as he scored 31 goals and 97 points over 82 games last season.

Pavel Datsyuk remained out of practice Monday due to his groin ailment, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:He hasn't played since the first exhibition game. He could still potentially return in time for the regular season opener, but is missing valuable ice time to get into rhythm and build chemistry with new line-mate Marian Hossa.

Pavel Datsyuk sat out Sunday's game while nursing a groin injury, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:The team is being cautious with him, but expects him to play later in the week. Datsyuk should once again challenge 100 points in 2008.

Pavel Datsyuk scored 97 points and is obviously a dynamic scoring star in the NHL, but he also plays a fair defensive game as well highlighted by the fact that he led the NHL with 144 takeways last season, according to NHL.com.

Our View:That number may seem a bit nebulous without some context, so how about this: Datsyuk's 144 takeaways were 58 more than any other skater in the NHL. Bump him up another notch or two if your league counts takeaways though he simply must be a top-15 pick no matter what rules your league uses.

Pavel Datsyuk won two awards on Thursday night as he was selected the leagues best defensive forward (Frank J. Selke Award) and the winner of the Lady Byng Award given to the player deemed to be the most gentlemanly on the ice, according to TSN.

Our View:Datsyuk became the first player in 73 years to win the Lady Byng trophy three years in a row after a year in which he scored 97 points with only 20 PIMs.

Pavel Datsyuk and the Detroit Red Wings scored six times on Monday night. Five went into the net and the sixth was revenge for Mike Ribeiro slash at goalie Chris Osgood in Game 2. The Red Wings beat the Stars 5-2 on Monday night to take a 3-0 lead in the Western Conference finals.

Our View:Datsyuk scored twice in the first period then again with 2:41 left in the third.

The Detroit Red Wings have taken a commanding 3-0 series lead against the Colorado Avalanche in their Western Conference semifinal battle, and center Pavel Datsyuk continues to lead the way for the Wings. Datsyuk scored two goals and added one assist in the win, giving him five total points over these three games.

Our View:The guy had 97 points in the regular season, so it should come as no surprise, but the Avs seem all too surprised as they continue to struggle in defending the Russian native.

Pavel Datsyuk was nominated for the Selke Trophy awarded to the forward "who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game," according to NHL.com.

Our View:It could be a big off-season for Datstuk given that he was also nominated for the Lady Byng award and that he suits up for the Red Wings who are pursuing the Stanley Cup. Toss in the 97 points and +41 rating he posted on the year, and you are arguably looking at one of the 10 best players in the NHL.
April 24, 2008
Pavel Datsyuk was named a finalist for the Lady Byng award given each year to the player who "exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability,” according to NHL.com.

Our View:Datsyuk has won the award in each of the past two seasons, and his combination of points (97) and PIM (20) have him nominated yet again. No player has won the award in three straight seasons since Frank Boucher of the Rangers did it in 1933-35, and if you remember that, well, your pretty old.

Pavel Datsyuk scored both Red Wings goals on Wednesday night in their 3-2 loss to the Predators.

Our View:Datsyuk has been doing his best with two goals and two assists in four games, but too many Wings scorers have failed to make much of a mark in Round 1.

Detroit, who won its fourth straight on Tuesday downing Chicago 3-1, appears to be back on track after suffering a spell of horrid play. Pavel Datsyuk scored the go-ahead goal in the second period and Chris Osgood returned to his stellar play making 19 stops in the win. Datsyuk now has five goals and three assists over a seven-game point streak and remains one of the elite fantasy options regardless of format.
