Brian Gionta scored and added two assists in New Jersey's 4-2 win over New York on Saturday. The Devils top line accounted for eight points on the afternoon.

Our View:Gionta, in a contract year, should have one of his best seasons yet playing on a talented line that features Brian Rolston and Patrik Elias.

Brian Gionta will become an unrestricted free agent following the 2008-09 season, but the team has still not yet offered a contract extension, according to the New York Post.

Our View:Gionta scored 48 goals in 2005-06 and was rewarded with a 3-year, $12 million deal. Since then he has scored a total of 47 goals in two years. Gionta will obviously need another big campaign to find any team willing to throw that much dough at him again, though you know how players in contract years often do their best work.

Brian Gionta sat out of practice on Thursday in order to rest, the Newark Star-Ledger reports. He will play on Friday.

Our View:Hopefully the rest will help, as the Devils need Gionta (and others) to step up.

Brian Gionta has pain and stiffness in one of his sides, and though he missed practice on Thursday, he still expects to play in Game 2 for the Devils, this according to the Star Ledger. Gionta scored only 22 goals this season, his lowest mark in three years, but he still provides the offensive spark off the wing that the Devils need.

Brian Gionta snapped a 13-game goalless drought on Wednesday night by scoring his 14th goal of the season. One of the bigger busts up front this season, Gionta, who scored 48 goals in 2005-06 and 25 last season, is barely on pace to record 20 this season, a plateau the smallish sniper should hit every season with little trouble.

Brian Gionta is expected to take part in Friday's tilt with the Rangers, according to the Star-Ledger. He sustained a lower-body injury during Tuesday's game, though he was able to complete the contest. He may risk aggravating the ailment tonight, but he wants to battle with the Rangers.
