Erik Cole has been traded to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for defensemen Joni Pitkanen, according to TSN.

Our View:With Raffi Torres traded to Columbus, Cole will slide into the opening on left wing to provide as much grit and substantially more offense than the departed forward. With health, we would expect Cole to return to the 30-goal form he flashed in 2005-06.

Erik Cole scored two goals on Thursday night in the Hurricanes 4-2 loss to the Rangers. After scoring 59 goals the past two seasons, Cole has failed to produce this year with 17 markers in 58 games. Still, he has six goals in his last 10 games, so maybe he is heating up just in time to salvage his season.
