Dominik Hasek has retired on Monday, according to ESPN.com. "The Dominator" played for 16 NHL campaigns, but noted that he lacked the motivation to return for another year. He said, "I don't feel today that I'm ready to compete on the highest level. Not because of the physical things, but because I need motivation every day."

Our View:Hasek should have a spot reserved in the Hall of Fame, and left the game with the Stanley Cup held above his head. The two-time Hart Trophy winner notched 389 wins, which ranks him third among active goalies. He is also the only goalie to win the MVP award twice.

NHL personnel are reporting goalie Dominik Hasek is expected to announce his retirement, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:The Red Wings have scheduled a press conference for Monday morning with no attached details. The person in the league office, requesting anonymity, has contacted the AP and reports the conference is in fact for Hasek to step away from the game.

Dominik Hasek said he will decide within the next few days whether or not to retire from the NHL, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View:The 43-year goalie will meet with GM Ken Holland on Monday or Tuesday. Hasek took a back seat to Chris Osgood through the playoffs, and Hasek can leave the game as a champion if he opts for retirement. He only started 40 games in the regular season as well.
