Alexei Ponikarovsky returned to action Thursday after missing three games with an ankle injury, the AP reports. He played over 21 minutes and assisted on one of the three Toronto goals.

Alexei Ponikarovsky is nursing an ankle injury. He's expected to travel with the Maple Leafs to Buffalo, but coach Paul Maurice said it's "highly unlikely" that the forward will play, according to the Toronto Star. Ponikarovsky has two goals in four games, so hopefully he'll get back in the mix soon and continue his quality start to the season.

Alexei Ponikarovsky has been medically cleared to return from his separated shoulder, according to the Toronto Star. It's possible he could play tonight. "I'm almost ready," said Ponikarovsky. "I think I'm gonna skate (this morning) and see how I feel. There is a chance. We'll try to figure out if they want me out there, or if they're going to give me a little bit more time."

Alexei Ponikarovsky skated yesterday for the first time since separating his shoulder last month, according to the Toronto Star. It's not clear when he will return to action, but he remains at least a week away from taking part in a full-contact practice.
