Andreas Lilja practiced with the Red Wings just three days after having his appendix removed, according to the Detroit News. Lilja said he could return Saturday night, but that it would be more likely that he will be back in action on Monday.

Our View:You probably want to bench Lilja for Saturday, as the Red Wings will certainly be cautious with him this early into the season. Have him back in your lineup on Monday night.

Andreas Lilja had his appendix removed, according to the Detroit News. Coach Mike Babcock said that he doesn't believe Lilja will miss much time.

Our View:Lilja will be replaced for Wednesday night's game at St. Louis by Derek Meech. Lilja may be placed on the injured reserve for a short period of time. Otherwise, don't adjust your roster, just stick with what you have for the rest of the week.

Andreas Lilja will remain with the Red Wings after signing a two-year contract extension on Monday, this according to TSN.ca. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but media reports say the deal is a small raise from his 2007 $1 million salary.

Our View:Entering his eighth NHL season and fourth with Detroit, Lilja tallied two goals and 10 assists with a minus -2 rating in 79 games played last season.

The Red Wings are close to signing Andreas Lilja, who can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, to an extension, according to the Detroit News. "We may have something done by the end of the week," GM Ken Holland said. "We weren't far apart late in the season. I'm optimistic we'll get something done."

Our View:The Wings are also trying to work out a deal with fellow defenseman Brad Stuart, also a potential unrestricted free agent.

Andreas Lilja could end up being a cap-casualty of the Red Wings this summer, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:The team would like to retain his services, but have several talented young defensemen ready to join the club. He only scored two goals in 2007-08, but both of them were game winners.

Andreas Lilja will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 if the team cannot re-sign him by then, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View:Lilja notched 10 assists over 79 games this season, and both of his goals were game-winners. The defenseman noted that he would like to return next season, for a repeat bid at the Stanley Cup.

Updating an earlier story, Andreas Lilja will not suit up for Game 4 because of the flu, he will be replaced in the lineup by Brett Lebda, this according to the Detroit News. "Lebs can push the puck up the ice. Our penalty kill has been good and Lils can block shots as good as anybody. You sacrifice something to get something," HC Mike Babcock said.

Our View:This is good news for fantasy gamers as Lebda certainly has more offensive upside than Lilja, though honestly, it is a relatively minor move that should result in limited fantasy value for Lebda.

Defenseman Andreas Lilja may not play tonight, according to the Detroit News. He has been battling flu-like symptoms, and Coach Mike Babcock stated that there may be some changes, depending on how some guys are feeling.

Our View:Brett Lebda is a possible candidate to replace him if needed.
