Former Tampa Bay Lightning head coach John Tortorella, who now does television broadcasts for TSN in Canada, had some choice words for Ottawa center Jason Spezza, according to Sun Media. "If Jason Spezza doesn't learn how to be a pro, (the Senators are) going nowhere ... And the last thing -- just shut up and play. I watch his interviews and it's like he has three Stanley Cup rings already. You haven't won squat. Play," said Tortorella.

Our View:Tortorella has won a Stanley Cup, but he was also fired from the Lightning last year, and replaced by ESPN analyst Barry Melrose. Spezza has played two games this season, and three points on a goal and two assists.

Jason Spezza generated a goal and an assist in Saturday's 4-3 loss to Pittsburgh.

Our View:Spezza averages 34 goals and 55 assists over his last two seasons with Ottawa, and looks to stay on par in 2008, making him a strong choice as a fantasy center.
September 21, 2008
Jason Spezza scored a shorthanded, unassisted goal for the Ottawa Senators in their 3-2 preseason victory over the New York Rangers.

Our View:Spezza, like his teammate Dany Heatley, should be an early selection for fantasy owners in their drafts. He put up 92 points last season, with a +26 and 66 PIM.
September 10, 2008
Ottawa center Jason Spezza says he wants to prove that he can be a solid all-around player by improving his defense, according to TSN.com.

Our View:Frankly, fantasy owners could care less if he becomes a better defensive player, as long as he continues to put up 90 points per season. Unfortunately, one of the things Ottawa is thinking about doing to accomplish this is break up the line of Spezza, Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson.

Ottawa GM Bryan Murray denies swirling speculation that a deal is in the works to send star Jason Spezza to the Kings, according to Slam Sports. Murray said there is no chance he is dealing Spezza, and added, "You guys make up more stories than I can ever imagine. I don't know where this stuff comes from. All that I know, at this point in time, that's not going to happen."

Our View:Spezza racked up 34 goals and 58 assists (92 points) over 76 games with Ottawa in 2007-08.
April 16, 2008
Jason Spezza skated on a line with Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson on Wedensday night, and the trio was held pointless in their series clinching defeat to the Penguins.

Our View:In the four games Spezza was held to one point, as was Heatley, though Alfredsson had nothing in two games. You simply can't win a series when your top-3 scorers are that ineffective.
April 14, 2008
Jason Spezza will play in Game 3 for the Ottawa Senators after all in the team's must-win, this according to TSN.

Our View:The Senators need all the weapons they can muster at this point since the Penguins clearly have them on the ropes. Look for Spezza to be flying all over the ice tonight.
April 13, 2008
Ottawa center Jason Spezza may not be available for action in Game 3 of the Senators’ playoff series with the Pittsburgh Penguins, according to Sportsnet.ca.

Our View:Senators GM and head coach Bryan Murray told reporters Sunday morning the center suffered an undisclosed leg injury in the first period on Friday night, and while Spezza returned to the ice after a brief visit to the training room, the team has doubts about his health moving forward and will put Spezza through various tests this weekend. As a result, Spezza’s status will not be officially announced until Monday.
March 27, 2008
Jason Spezza scored his 33rd goal of the season in Ottawa's 4-3 loss to Buffalo, which ended in a shootout. He has now scored at least one point in nine straight games.
March 22, 2008
Jason Spezza gathered two assists in Ottawa’s heartbreaking loss to the Toronto (4-5). Spezza leads the Senators in assists and total points, adding tonight’s helpers to get to 55 assists on the season and 86 total points.
March 21, 2008
Jason Spezza sat out Friday's practice because of "general soreness," according to TSN.ca. Don't expect "general soreness" to keep Spezza out of the lineup tomorrow night.
March 13, 2008
Jason Spezza knocked in a pair of goals in a 3-0 win over Montreal. He now has 30 goals for the season. He has scored a goal in back-to-back games and has a three game scoring streak as well.
March 6, 2008
Jason Spezza scored two goals on Wednesday night to give him 27 tallies on the season in 62 games. Spezza, one of the leagues best passers, has 77 point son the year including 50 assists, the third straight year he has reached that plateau.
February 28, 2008
Jason Spezza scored his 25th goal of the season on Thursday night for the Senators. After scoring the goal Spezza ended up getting into a skirmish with Martin Biron that resulted in Spezza receiving a fighting major and a game misconduct (15 PIM), not bad for a guy who entered the game with only 34 PIM.
February 14, 2008
Jason Spezza was the only player on his line to score a point as he had a measly assist in the Sens 3-2 OT loss to the Devils. Any time a team can keep Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson off the scorebard they will have a great chance to win, and that formula proved successful in New Jersey tonight.
February 11, 2008
Jason Spezza was named the NHL's First Star according to NHL.com. Spezza had 11 points in three games including four goals and seven assists, with six of those points coming in one game on Saturday night. Spezza is now up to fifth in NHL scoring with 71 points despite playing in only 50 games this season.
February 9, 2008
Jason Spezza had the best game of his career on Saturday night as he scored a hat-trick while adding three assists in the Senators 6-1 romp over Montreal. Spezza now has 71 points in just 50 games this season and is well on pace for his third straight season of at least 85-points despite the fact that he suited up for fewer than 70 games in each of the last two seasons.
January 15, 2008
Jason Spezza is considered probable for Tuesday’s game against the Capitals, according to the Canadian Press. He suffered an undisclosed injury during Sunday’s loss to the Islanders.

Our View:This is obviously great news for fantasy owners. Spezza would skate on the top line with Randy Robitaille, who is filling in for Dany Heatley, and Daniel Alfredsson.
January 14, 2008
Jason Spezza was unable to complete Sunday's game after taking a big hit. Coach John Paddock said he pulled Spezza from the game because he "just wasn't feeling right," according to the Ottawa Citizen. If he sustained a concussion, he'll miss some game action. We'll have to wait to hear how he's feeling Monday, though, before a timetable for his return will be set. The Sens already lost Dany Heatley for at least a month, so losing Spezza would be brutal.
