HockeyBuzz.com speculates that the Wild will explore trading Marian Gaborik since they have not been able to sign him before the start of the season.

Our View:With 83 points last season, there would definitely be a big market for Gaborik's services.
October 3, 2008
Marian Gaborik scored and added an assist in a 3-5 loss to the Blue Jackets on Friday.

Our View:Aside from injury concerns, Gaborik is an excellent fantasy selection. He had 42 goals, 41 assists and 63 PIM last season.
September 26, 2008
Marian Gaborik, dealing with a strained quadriceps, skated on Thursday for the first time since once again injuring the muscle last weekend, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:Gaborik is always seemingly injured, so this is just par for the course with the scoring star. Still embroiled in contract negotiations off the ice, Garborik will need to play, and play well, to earn the big dollar contract he seeks.
September 25, 2008
Marian Gaborik and the Minnesota Wild are negotiating a contract extension, but the two sides are still far apart, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View:Gaborik, who is out with a sore quad at the moment, has wanted a new deal for some time, but despite earlier reports that the two sides were close, nothing appears imminent.
September 24, 2008
Marian Gaborik is dealing with a sore quad, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:He has been off the ice since Saturday due to the ailment. He has a history of leg injuries, and is yet to sign a contract extension with the Wild.
September 21, 2008
Marian Gaborik is anxious to get a new contract done with the Minnesota Wild, and word is that it may come very soon, according to HockeyBuzz.com.

Our View:One of the best players in the NHL, the Wild will have to pony up for Gaborik, but 40-goal scorers do not show up every day.
September 20, 2008
Marian Gaborik suffered a minor quad strain during the team's first day of training camp, according to HockeyBuzz.com.

Our View:Indications are that Gaborik will be fine, so fantasy owners have nothing to worry about.
September 19, 2008
Rumblings out of Minnesota are that Marian Gaborik is pondering possibly leaving at the end of the 2008-09 season if he doesn't get a big time contract offer from the Wild this season, according to the Star Tribune. "Gabby will have to make a decision, and it's up to him to live with it," HC Jacques Lemaire said. "He's got to be mature enough to be able to live with the decision he makes -- signing, not signing, whatever he makes, he's got to live with it and do the best he can."

Our View:Gaborik is one of the most talented skaters in the NHL, one of the few players who can literally bring people out of their seats with his awe inspiring speed and offensive gifts. In order to get the huge contract he seeks from anyone he will need to stay healthy given that he has appeared in 70 games just once in the last four seasons.

Assistant general manager Tom Lynn will fly to Los Angeles on Tuesday night and meet with agent Ron Saicer, who represents Marian Gaborik. Lynn tells the Minneapolis Star Tribune that the trip is designed "so we can both try to push the process forward." The Wild and Gaborik are working on a new contract.

Our View:This is good news for Wild fans, most of whom want to see the team's star stick around. Gaborik is prone to injury, but he is also prone to performing well for fantasy teams.
September 4, 2008
With just one year remaining on his contract, Wild forward Marian Gaborik would like a new deal, and the team is in negotiations with him, according to TSN.com.

Our View:Gaborik is a top fantasy player, and put up 83 points on 42 goals and 41 assists last season. He also added a +17 and 63 PIM. Gaborik is looking to be paid a hefty sum, so it is unclear if the Wild will be able, or willing, to afford it.

Wild assistant GM Tom Lynn has told reporters the club will have to consider trading star RW Marian Gaborik if he doesn't accept their contract offers, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "If he were to indicate he wasn't going to sign, then we'd have to make a decision about whether we'd want to play with that distraction," Lynn told the Pioneer Press. "We would have to weigh the pros and cons, and if that time came and he was not re-signing, then we would have to decide his trade value. But it's not an automatic."

Our View:Lynn told the Pioneer Press the Wild would contact Gaborik's agent, Ron Salcer, "soon" to talk contract. Wild GM Doug Risebrough and Lynn met with Gaborik last week in Slovakia to give him a sales job on the Wild's future and convince him to re-sign instead of pursuing unrestricted free agency next summer. Part of the discussions were spent trying to convince Gaborik that he can score just as much by staying as he would by leaving. Lynn and Risebrough showed Gaborik he is fourth in the NHL in goals per game [behind Alex Ovechin, Ilya Kovalchuk and Dany Heatley], first in even-strength goals per minute played and tied for second in goals per 60 minutes played [behind Ovechkin]. Gaborik, 26, will make $7.5 million this season.
August 12, 2008
Wild GM Doug Risebrough is traveling to Slovakia and the Czech Republic to scout an under-18 tournament and will likely try to start talks with star winger Marian Gaborik about an extension while he's there, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "The player in this case will be a free agent in a year from now, and he should hear what the GM plans for the team and what we're trying to accomplish and how we're trying to accomplish it," Risebrough told the Pioneer Press. "I think it's probably fairly obvious, but I want to talk about it face to face." Gaborik, 26, can be an unrestricted free agent after this season, in which he will make $7.5 million.

Our View:Risebrough wants to get Gaborik's extension locked up before the Wild begin training camp Sept. 19 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, according to the Pioneer Press. The Minneapolis Star Tribune previously reported the Wild will make Gaborik an offer in the range of $8.5 million per year among the variety of proposals they'll make. Risebrough previously told the Pioneer Press that Gaborik won't get a maximum offer in the range of $11 million per season. Gaborik had 42 goals and 83 points and was plus-17 in 77 games last season.

Coach Jacques Lemaire says he’ll return for an eighth season with the Wild, according to the AP.

Our View:Lemaire has a career record of 500-381-168 over 14 years of coaching service, including 60-52 in the playoffs. But with the Wild, he’s gone a disappointing 11-18 in the playoffs.
May 3, 2008
Minnesota winger Marian Gaborik underwent minor arthroscopic surgery on Friday to relieve irritation in his right hip resulting from a torn labrum and resulting pressure, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Gaborik struggled with the pain of this inflammation throughout the season and the Wild report the surgery was a success, believing his recovery time will be minimal and stating Gaborik should be ready for training camp. The injury will keep him from playing for Slovakia in this month's World Championships.
April 24, 2008
We may now have at least a partial explanation of why Marian Gaborik was so poor in the first round of the playoffs, he was hurt, according to NHL.com. According to the report Gaborik has a "hip deficiency attributable to overuse."

Our View:Well, this partially explains the lack of point production, but it doesn't let him off the hook either. Gaborik will have a long summer to get himself in shape.
April 19, 2008
Marian Gaborik had six shots on goal and also managed his first point of the first round, an assist, but it wasn't enough to stop the Wild from being eliminated by the Avalanche.

Our View:Gaborik managed just one point in six games, this after scoring 42 goals with 83 points during the regular season, and while it's tough to blame a series loss on one guy, it will be a long off-season for this Czech superstar.
April 18, 2008
Marian Gaborik has now gone five games without a single point for the Wild, and he simply must score if the Wild are to comeback and emerge victorious in their first round matchup with the Avalanche.

Our View:For a player with as much skill as Gaborik possesses, it's almost impossible to believe he could go five games without a point. Being tagged a choke artist isn't an easy moniker to get rid of, so let's hope he has a big Game 6.
April 17, 2008
Marian Gaborik is one of the 10 most dynamic offensive weapons in the NHL, but so far in the playoffs he has been grounded without a point, this according to the Twin Cities. "That's playoffs. Just keep working hard, drive to the net. Eventually, it's got to go in," Gaborik said.

Our View:This has been a great series with the Avalanche, but the fact of the matter is that if Gaborik scores the Wild win. If he doesn't, they don't. Simple as that.
April 14, 2008
Marian Gaborik has failed to record a point in the Wild's first two games of the playoffs, something that must change if they are going to defeat the Avalanche, this according to the Denver Post.

Our View:Gaborik, Pavol Demitra, Brian Rolston and Pierre-Marc Bouchard have combined for one goal and two assists in the first two games, so Gaborik is not alone in struggling to solve Jose Theodore.
March 30, 2008
Marian Gaborik blasted two goals in Sunday night's 3-2 win over Colorado. He has 80 points for the season, and that was his first goal since March 19, when he scored a pair against San Jose.
March 15, 2008
Marian Gaborik scored the 200th goal of his career in a 2-0 win over the Kings Saturday night, according to NHL.com. That was his 36th goal of this season.
March 2, 2008
Marian Gaborik will wear the rotating "C" Sunday night when the Wild host the Kings, according to the Pioneer Press. With 18 regular-season games remaining, the Wild are in a position to capture their first division title and their highest postseason seed ever as a franchise. "It's an honor," Gaborik said. "I've been here since the beginning, and this is the first time, so it's definitely special." Gaborik leads the Wild in points (33-31-64), game winning goals (seven), and is a team-best plus-11 this season.
February 17, 2008
Marian Gaborik scored the game-winning goal with 4.4 seconds left in OT, his second tally of the game, in the Wild's 5-4 victory over the Predators. He also added an assist. Gaborik is up to 32 goals and 62 points in 54 games with a +11 on the year. He has a shot at his career-high of 38 goals if he can stay healthy the rest of the way as he is yet again proving himself to be one of the most dynamic players in the NHL.
January 10, 2008
Marian Gaborik had a goal and two assists in Thursday's win at Detroit. He later added the game-deciding score in the shootout. Add it all up and it's a strong statement from Gaborik, who complained about his ice time earlier in the week.
January 8, 2008
Marian Gaborik has been logging less ice time in recent weeks because he and head coach Jacques Lemaire aren’t seeing eye to eye. “Gabby’s working, but it’s not hard enough – plain and simple,” Lemaire told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Gaborik has played less than 16 minutes in three of the last six games.

Our View:Lemaire has butted heads with Gaborik and his line mate Pavol Demitra this season. We’re not sure what to make of the personality clashes, but fantasy owners surely recall that Gaborik scored five goals in a game recently. In other words, he can make the most out of limited playing time.
