Center Jeff Halpern, who had major surgery on his right knee in June, could be out until January according to the Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Our View:Halpern tallied 42 points last season, but it appears he is a major risk coming into this season. The same article said it is possible he could return as early as the end of October. We'll keep a close eye on him.

Updating an earlier report, Jeff Halpern has a ruptured ACL, suffered at the IIHF World Hockey Championships, and injury that will keep him out of action for at least six to eight months, according to NHL.com. Halpern also suffered a Grade 3 sprain of his MCL and a slight tear to his lateral meniscus.

Our View:Terrible news for Halpern who really found his game with the Bolts. This injury likely means he won't be back to full health until somewhere around New Years.

Tampa Bay Lightning center Jeff Halpern (USA) suffered a torn ACL on a hit by Minnesota Wild defenseman Brent Burns (Canada) during Tuesday game.

Our View:Halpern finished the NHL season red-hot, with 18 points in 19 games, after being traded from the Dallas Stars. Halpern's 10 goals with the Lightning matched the number he had posted in the previous 64 games with the Stars.

Jeff Halpern continues to carry the hot hand for Tampa Bay, registering a goal and two assists in tonight's 3-1 win over the Florida Panthers. Halpern now has five goals and six assists over his last seven games, but has not been a tremendous fantasy option this season.

Jeff Halpern knocked in a goal against Boston on Thursday, and has now scored a goal in three straight games. He also notched six points over that span as well.
February 27, 2008
Jeff Halpern, in his first game with the Lightning, was named first star as he scored a goal and added an assist in the Lightning's loss. These were Halpern's first points in seven games, and while hope springs eternal, don't count on more nights of offensive production from Halpern.
February 26, 2008
Jeff Halpern was acquired by the Lightning Tuesday in the Richards deal. Halpern has produced 24 points in 64 games this season for the Stars. He's not fantasy material unless you're in a very deep league.
