Defenseman Brian Campbell had four assists in the Chicago Blackhawks' 4-3 preseason victory over the Dallas Stars on Sunday night.

Our View:Campbell clearly knows how to set guys up from the blue line. He had 54 assists in 83 games last season. That's 83. He played with both San Jose and Buffalo last season and was widely regarded as the best defenseman on the free agent market.

The Blackhawks have landed star defenseman Brian Campbell, according to TSN.ca. He inked a lucrative eight-year deal worth $56.8 million.

Our View:Campbell was the top defenseman on the free agent market, and he racked up eight goals and 54 assists in 2007-08.

Add the Devils to the list of teams interested in the services of free agent Brian Campbell, according to the New York Post. "We did have discussions. I'm not sure if Lou is going to make an offer, but we'd be receptive to listening," agent Larry Kelly said.

Our View:Campbell will be the top target of many clubs after last seasons 62 points, including 33 on the power-play. The Devils might also make a play for Mike Commodore if they are unable to bring back Bryce Salvador.
