Evgeni Nabokov finished second in the voting for the Vezina Trophy, which went to Martin Brodeur, according to the Mercury News. Nabokov said, "I try not to be too disappointed because you really have no control over these things when other people are voting. But I'm going to use this as motivation to push myself even harder and have a better season next year."

Our View:The 31-year old Nabokov went 46-21-8 in 2007-08, with a .910 save percentage, and a 2.14 GAA.

Evgeni Nabokov played one of the best games of his life on Sunday night but it wasn't enough as the Sharks fell to the Stars 2-1 in quadruple OT. Nabokov stopped 53 of 55 Dallas shots and finished the playoffs with a 2.18 GAA.

Our View:Nabokov did his part but his mates were only able to slide one puck past Marty Turco. Nabby wasn't always great in these playoffs but when the Sharks needed him most he stopped 95 of the last 99 shots he faced.

The San Jose Sharks are looking at goalie Evgeni Nabokov , a Vezina Trophy candidate and often-stout tender that brings the Sharks to the top of their game, to step it up and take the lead as Sharks host the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference semifinals tonight, according to the Mercury News. The Stars lead the series 1-0, coming off a 3-2 OT win in Game 1 that led both Nabokov and winger Devin Setoguchi to question the team's heart. After skipping on the post-game news conference, Nabokov stated, "I just didn't have much to say. Sometimes you just have to let it go. I don't think we played a bad game. We just didn't have that extra... I don't know what the word is." Setoguchi stepped in to offer the word, "Drive."

Our View:Nabokov agreed, but he also noted the Sharks' 27-18 advantage in shots on goal and put focus on his own performance. Nabokov led the NHL in victories (46) with a lowly 2.14 goals-against average, and in the playoffs he is allowing just 2.49 goals per game. "It's the playoffs," Nabokov said. "It's never going to be smooth and you have to find a way to fight through it. You have to overcome adversity and overcome losses. We just have to come out better." Look for Nabokov to hit the ice and put his best skate forward today as a result. He rarely, if ever, posts two games of struggle in consecutive outings, and it would seem unlikely the Stars could count on such gifts in Game 2.
