Marian Hossa participated in his contract drills on Thursday since undergoing offseason shoulder surgery, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:He completed them without any setbacks. He is expected to return sometime during the team's six-game road trip that begins next Thursday.
November 11, 2009
According to the Chicago Tribune, Blackhawks' winger Marian Hossa will take the next step in his rehab this week when he participates in contact drills for the first time since his shoulder surgery. Hossa is expected to begin the contact drills either Thursday or Friday.

Our View:The Hawks are going to be extremely cautious here, as they can't risk re-injuring their 12-year, $62.8 million man. Assuming all goes well, Hossa should remain on track to return in a few weeks.
November 1, 2009
TSN.ca is reporting that Blackhawks' winger Marian Hossa is still three or four weeks away from returning from shoulder surgery. Hossa has not played for the Hawks this season.

Our View:The Hawks could really use Hossa right about now, as their offense is showing signs of struggling. He will be a huge addition when he is ready to play, so fantasy owners need to keep being patient.
October 18, 2009
Marian Hossa skated for the first time on Friday since undergoing shoulder surgery in July, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:It was also the first since he signed a 12-year deal with Chicago. He's still on target to join the 5-2-1 Blackhawks sometime in late November or early December. As a member of the Detroit Red Wings last season, he scored 40 goals and tallied 31 assists.
July 24, 2009
According to the Twitter page of hockey writer Kevin Allen, Marian Hossa underwent successful surgery on his shoulder on Friday. Hossa is expected to miss four months, putting his return in late November, early December.

Our View:These things usually go as planned, but Chicago fans have to be happy that nothing went wrong. Don't be shocked if he plays a little sooner than projected, but barring any setbacks he should be good to go by at least the beginning of December.
July 23, 2009
Marian Hossa is slated to undergo surgery Friday on his right shoulder to repair a small tear in his rotator cuff, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:He is expected to need four months of recovery time following surgery, so he won't likely be ready for the season opener against the Panthers October 2. The Blackhawks were aware of the injury when they inked him to a 12-year deal for $62.8MM, but were hoping that surgery would not be needed.
July 23, 2009
According to the Chicago Tribune, the Blackhawks are calling Marian Hossa's shoulder injury "relatively minor".

Our View:That's the good news. The bad news is that the team still hasn't ruled out surgery that could sideline him for the start of the upcoming season. Hossa is currently rehabbing his $62.8 million rotator cuff in Minnesota and the team wants to wait and see if it responds well to treatment. GM Stan Bowman had this to say, "The goal is to get this thing to settle down. If we have to do [surgery], we'll do it. It's not a major injury, that's the good news. We want to make sure we do the right thing. We're still determining what that is." He also noted that the team knew Hossa was hurt when they signed him, but the Hawks' doctors thought it was something he could play through. Stay tuned as this situation is far from over.
July 22, 2009
Updating a previous report, the AP has confirmed that winger Marian Hossa is indeed rehabbing a shoulder injury that he suffered in the playoffs.

Our View:Apparently the Blackhawks signed some damaged goods this offseason when they gave this elite player a 12-year contract. However, we expect he should be good to go by the time training camps open up. He led Detroit with 40 goals last season.
July 21, 2009
There is belief that Marian Hossa is dealing with a shoulder or rotator cuff injury, according to Daily Herald.

Our View:The severity of the ailment is unknown, but the elite sniper may need surgery. Chicago is monitoring Hossa, and it is believed he sustained the injury during the playoffs.
July 1, 2009
According to TSN.com, the Blackhawks have signed free agent winger Marian Hossa to a 12-year, $62.4 million contract.

Our View:Hossa will get $5.2 million per season, but the contract is front-loaded and he will receive $53 million paid out over the first seven years. Hossa racked up 40 goals and 71 points last season and Chicago's newest sniper will likely be paired with budding young playmaker Jonathan Toews. This will inevitably help Toews' fantasy value, and Hossa should be a solid top-round pick once again.
July 1, 2009
Marian Hossa's days as a Detroit Red Wing are likely done, according to the Detroit News. The talented winger turned down a 10-year deal from the Wings and will test the free agent market.

Our View:Hossa's deal was apparently worth about $6 million per season, but last year's 40-goal scorer is looking for upwards of $7 million per. Perhaps he wants a fresh start after losing back to back Stanley Cups the last two years with the Penguins and Red Wings respectively. Regardless of where he winds up, he'll be a top line forward and a dominant fantasy player.
June 29, 2009
The Detroit News is reporting that the Red Wings may deal Marian Hossa before he hits free agency on Wednesday if they cannot come to an agreement on a deal before then. The two sides are said to be very far apart at this point, and if the Wings feel like they won't be able to get it done they will try to trade him to get something for him.

Our View:It is starting to look like Hossa may play elsewhere next season, which would end his once promising tenure with the club. He came to Detroit to win a cup, but was bested by his former team in the finals. Hossa is still an elite offensive threat, and he will have tremendous fantasy value wherever he ends up, although a return to the Wings would probably have the greatest impact on his value.
June 24, 2009
The Red Wings reportedly offered Marian Hossa a lucrative long-term deal, and are waiting to see if he will accept, according to SLAM Sports.

Our View:The elite sniper is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent July 1 if he turns down the Red Wings' offer. He left Pittsburgh to win a Stanley Cup with Detroit, and it must have stung to watch the Penguins win it at Joe Louis Arena.
June 15, 2009
Marian Hossa is looking to sign a long term deal this offseason according to The Detroit News.

Our View:Everyone's favorite Stanley Cup goat should still probably get a pretty big contract this offseason. Whether it will be from the Red Wings or not is the question.
June 7, 2009
Marian Hossa is still yet to light the lamp over the five games of the Stanley Cup Finals. He has three assists in the series, and the Red Wings hold a 3-2 lead over the Penguins.

Our View:Hossa scored 12 goals in the playoffs with Pittsburgh last season, and is one win away from hoisting the Stanley Cup with Detroit - which is the main reason he inked with the club.
June 2, 2009
HockeyBuzz.com is reporting that multiple sources close to Marian Hossa have indicated that Hossa and the Red Wings are close to a contract extension that would last somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-to-8 years.

Our View:This has not been confirmed yet, but the sources are believed to be very reliable. We will update this story as more information comes out, but it looks as if Hossa could be staying in Detroit for a very long time.
May 31, 2009
Marian Hossa was unable to find the back of the net off five shots on goal, though he did post an assist in Detroit's 3-1 Game 2 win over Pittsburgh.

May 24, 2009
Marian Hossa got the Red Wings going with a shorthanded tally in the first period on Sunday. Detroit never looked back as Hossa added another goal and an assist in their 6-1 thrashing of the Blackhawks. The Wings now hold a commanding 3-1 series lead.

Our View:Hossa is a menacing presence and it almost seems unfair that Detroit can trot out so many players of his caliber. The sniping right winger now has five points in his last two games and has had a big hand in the burying of Chicago.
May 18, 2009
Marian Hossa briefly exited Sunday's Game 1 against the Blackhawks and went to the dressing room, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:Hossa sustained a hard hit from Andrew Ladd, but was able to return to the ice and finish the game. The elite sniper should be fine for Game 2.
May 8, 2009
Marian Hossa has been quiet in the Red Wings' second round series against the Ducks. That is until tonight, when he notched two goals in helping the Wings to a 6-3 win.

Our View:The Wings need this from Hossa if they are going to win this series. Hossa is a big part of their offense, and when he is scoring the team wins. Now that he has gotten on the board, maybe he will return to the player he was in the regular season.
April 23, 2009

April 16, 2009
According to the Detroit News, Marian Hossa is ready to go and will play in Game 1 on Thursday against the Blue Jackets.

Our View:Hossa was expected back after missing the final two games of the regular season with a groin injury, so this is not a big surprise. Hossa should be one of the elite players in this year's postseason.
April 11, 2009
Marian Hossa will miss the final two regular season games with a groin injury but is expected back for the first round of the playoffs, according to the Detroit News. "We're going to hold him out for the weekend," GM Ken Holland said. "He feels OK. He'd like to play Sunday, but we're not going to play him. Right now, everything looks good."

Our View:Hossa reached the 40-goal mark for the third time in his career this year, but it looks like he won't get a shot to add any more tallies. Red Wings fans should be happy to get him back for the postseason, though.

March 20, 2009
Detroit GM Ken Holland is expected to meet with the agent for Marian Hossa next week to discuss a new contract that will keep the star forward in a Red Wings uniform, according to the Detroit Free Press.

March 4, 2009
As expected, Marian Hossa was scratched from Wednesday's game at Colorado, according to TSN.
