James Thrash, WR Sunday 10/12, 7:16 PM CT
Wide receiver James Thrash sprained his knee during the Week 6 loss to the Rams, the AP reports.

Our View: We don't know the extent of the injury yet. If Thrash is out for a while, we could see more of rookies Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly.
Ladell Betts, RB Sunday 10/12, 7:13 PM CT
Running back Ladell Betts sprained his knee during the Week 6 loss to the Rams, the AP reports.

Our View: We don't know the extent of the injury at this point. The Redskins could turn to Rock Cartwright as Clinton Portis's primary backup if Betts misses time.
Clinton Portis, RB Sunday 10/12, 4:55 PM CT
Running back Clinton Portis notched 21 carries for 129 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 6 loss to St. Louis.

Our View: In the past three games, Kid Bro Sweets has compiled 71 carries for 395 yards and three touchdowns. Portis has 21 or more carries in every game this year and has scored six touchdowns this season.
Chris Samuels, T Sunday 10/12, 1:39 PM CT
Left tackle Chris Samuels exited the game against St. Louis in the second quarter with a knee injury.

Our View: Samuels protects quarterback Jason Campbell's blindside, and provides run support for Clinton Portis, so his absence is definitely a major concern. Jason Fabini, who is normally a backup guard has taken Samuels' place in the starting lineup.
Malcolm Kelly, WR Sunday 10/12, 11:37 AM CT
Redskins inactives: QB Colt Brennan (3rd), WR Malcolm Kelly, DB Justin Hamilton, FS Reed Doughty, OT Stephon Heyer, T Chad Rinehart, DE Erasmus James, DE Rob Jackson.

Our View: Defensive end Jason Taylor is active and rookie strong safety Chris Horton will start in place of Reed Doughty.
Cornelius Griffin, DT Sunday 10/12, 7:10 AM CT
Cornelius Griffin has been upgraded to probable for today's battle against the Rams, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He missed most of the week's practices while nursing a shoulder injury.

Our View: Griffin is the Redskins' best interior lineman, and his presence would make it more difficult for the Rams, namely Steven Jackson, to run the ball.
Malcolm Kelly, WR Saturday 10/11, 2:30 PM CT
Redskins rookie wideout Malcolm Kelly had to have his left knee drained, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Kelly had surgery on the knee, and it has, in part, limited his effectiveness. He has just one catch for six yards this season, and is irrelevant for fantasy purposes.
Stephon Heyer, OL Saturday 10/11, 2:28 PM CT
Starting right tackkle Stephon Heyer will not suit up for the Redskins' game against the Rams on Sunday, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Heyer has had a shoulder problem and did not play Week 5 either. Jon Jansen will start in his place once again.
Pete Kendall, G Saturday 10/11, 2:18 PM CT
Redskins coaches are very happy with the way veteran guard Pete Kendall has been playing, especially in the running game, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Clinton Portis often runs behind Kendall, and he is a big reason why Washington is fifth in the NFL in rushing yards per game, at nearly 147. Portis and Co. have a great matchup Sunday against the hapless Rams.
Shawn Springs, CB Friday 10/10, 5:24 PM CT
Shawn Springs practiced Friday and will play Sunday against the Rams, according to the AP. He had been dealing with a calf ailment.

Our View: Springs is still a solid NFL cornerback and will provide a boost while battling Torry Holt and the Rams' aerial attack. As a fantasy prospect, he holds little value.
Jason Taylor, DE Friday 10/10, 3:38 PM CT
Redskins defensive end Jason Taylor is officially listed as probable on the team's injury report, increasing the likelihood that he will play Sunday, according to NFL.com.

Our View: Taylor, who had been suffering a calf injury that required surgery, made it though practice on Friday without incident, which means that unless a setback occurs between now and game-time, he'll be in the Redskins lineup.
Jason Taylor, DE Friday 10/10, 10:28 AM CT
Redskins defensive end Jason Taylor will play on Sunday against the Rams if he is able to make it through a full practice on Friday, according to the Washington Post. "I think it is [realistic] for me right now. But we've got to wait to see what happens in the next 24 hours," Taylor said.

Our View: Taylor had surgery on his calf September 22, but is itching to play. Fantasy owners should feel comfortable playing the Redskins' D/ST unit even without Taylor against the Rams, but his addition will make that option even more favorable.
Marcus Washington, LB Thursday 10/9, 4:44 PM CT
Linebacker Marcus Washington will not likely play in Week 6 against the Rams. He is recovering from a sore hamstring.

Our View: Washington has 13 tackles this season and is a sound element in the 'Skins run defense. However, he does not hold much IDP value.
Jason Taylor, DE Thursday 10/9, 3:41 PM CT
Jason Taylor went through practice Thursday without any issues, and is pushing to see some action this weekend against the Rams, according to the Washington Post. He is trying to return from surgery to relieve compartment syndrome in his calf.

Our View: Taylor still has stitches in his calf from the emergency procedure, and has some concern about re-opening that gash, but took a limited role in practice. Coach Jim Zorn noted that if Taylor can practice Friday without a setback, then he would dress against the Rams. We will keep you posted on the elite defensive end's status.
Shawn Springs, CB Thursday 10/9, 3:36 PM CT
Shawn Springs is expected to return to the Redskins' secondary this weekend following his bout with a strained calf, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Coach Jim Zorn said that he could be employed in the Redskins' "cobra" package, which uses three safeties. It is unclear how much time he will serve at his usual cornerback spot. Washington hosts St. Louis this weekend.
Reed Doughty, S Thursday 10/9, 12:25 PM CT
Reed Doughty expects to miss Week 6 due to a nerve problem in his back, according to the Washington Post. He said it looks doubtful for him to play, but still did not rule out practicing Friday.

Our View: If unable to go, rookie Chris Horton would likely replace him at strong safety. Horton has more big-play ability than Doughty, and could rank as a solid IDP sleeper this weekend against the Rams if called into action.
Jason Taylor, DE Wednesday 10/8, 3:25 PM CT
Coach Jim Zorn indicated that Jason Taylor could play in Week 6 if he can fully practice on Thursday and Friday, according to the Washington Post. He is trying to return from surgery to relieve compartment syndrome in his calf.

Our View: He could be limited in his first game back, but fantasy owners should still be thrilled to get him back this soon. We will keep you posted on the elite defensive end's status.
Malcolm Kelly, WR Tuesday 10/7, 2:54 PM CT
Rookie wideout Malcolm Kelly said the pain in his left knee has subsided, and he wants to practice this week with hopes of playing on Sunday, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: And why wouldn't he want to play? Kelly and the Redskins face the putrid Rams defense this week, which gives up an average of 245.8 passing yards per game.
Jason Taylor, DE Monday 10/6, 1:45 PM CT
Jason Taylor is trying to return from surgery to relieve compartment syndrome in his calf, and intends to increase his practice workload this week, according to the Washington Post. Coach Jim Zorn said, "He will try to rev it up, I know that."

Our View: This is encouraging news, but Zorn still cannot speculate when Taylor will be back. Hopefully fantasy owners have done as well as Washington without the stud defensive end, as they are currently 4-1.
Cornelius Griffin, DT Monday 10/6, 1:40 PM CT
Cornelius Griffin is set to undergo an MRI for his injured left shoulder, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Coach Jim Zorn noted that Griffin has a sprain and the team will try to get him ready for Sunday against the Rams. Griffin holds very little fantasy value, but he is a solid defensive tackle, and his absence would benefit Steven Jackson and the Rams' ground attack.
Malcolm Kelly, WR Monday 10/6, 1:36 PM CT
Malcolm Kelly is experiencing more swelling in his knee, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: He played sparingly Sunday against the Eagles. It would appear that Kelly could be in jeopardy of being placed on IR if his knee doesn't respond favorably soon. The rookie fell behind in training camp and the preseason due to ailments, and only has one catch for six yards.
Shawn Springs, CB Monday 10/6, 12:32 PM CT
Shawn Springs intends to be ready for Week 6 against St. Louis, according to the Washington Post. He is recovering from a strained calf and said, "I'm gonna be out there this weekend. As good as we played without me. I might be coming off the bench, but I'm playing."

Our View: Springs is still a solid NFL cornerback, and his return will likely slow down Torry Holt and the Rams' passing attack.
Cornelius Griffin, DT Sunday 10/5, 7:55 PM CT
The Washington Post is reporting that Cornelius Griffin suffered a right-shoulder sprain in the Redskins Week 5 win over the Eagles.

Our View: The Redskins did not say how severe the injury was.
Jason Campbell, QB Sunday 10/5, 7:39 PM CT
Jason Campbell has not thrown an interception in his last 175 straight pass attempts. The streak has set a Redskins record that was previously held by Joe Theismann, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Campbell doesn't have eye-popping numbers but has six touchdown passes to no interceptions. Those type of numbers should get some consideration for a start on fantasy teams.
Santana Moss, WR Sunday 10/5, 3:26 PM CT
Wide receiver Santana Moss was held without a catch in the Week 5 win over the Eagles.

Our View: The Eagles keyed on Moss with a combination of Asante Samuel and (usually) another defensive back. The effort was bad news for fantasy owners, but the Redskins found other options and still won.
Chris Cooley, TE Sunday 10/5, 3:24 PM CT
Tight end Chris Cooley caught eight passes for 109 yards and a touchdown in the Week 5 win over the Eagles.

Our View: Cooley is finally on the scoreboard this season. He remains a solid No. 1 fantasy tight end, and it's good to see him have a big outing.
Clinton Portis, RB Sunday 10/5, 3:20 PM CT
Running back Clinton Portis rushed 29 times for 145 yards and a touchdown in the Week 5 win over the Eagles. He also chipped in two receptions for 13 yards.

Our View: The veteran workhorse continues to carry the load for the Redskins and fantasy owners. He may no longer be very explosive, but he is consistently productive and a No. 1 fantasy back.
Cornelius Griffin, DT Sunday 10/5, 1:05 PM CT
Defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin headed to the locker room during the first half of the Week 5 game against the Eagles. He was seen walking back to the sidelines shortly before the end of the first half.

Our View: We're not sure of the injury, but it's a good sign that he is back on the sidelines. He is a key member of the Redskins defensive line.
Marcus Washington, LB Sunday 10/5, 11:42 AM CT
The Redskins will be without linebacker Marcus Washington (hamstring) for the Week 5 game against the Eagles. Cornerback Shawn Springs and defensive end Jason Taylor are also out.

Our View: The Redskins are riding high after a win in Dallas, but they could have a tough time stopping the Eagles without these three veteran starters.
Colt Brennan, QB Sunday 10/5, 10:50 AM CT
Week 5 inactives: QB Colt Brennan (3rd), CB Shawn Springs, DE Jason Taylor, DB Justin Hamilton, LB Marcus Washington, OT Stephon Heyer, OT Chad Rinehart, DE Rob Jackson.

Our View: The defense is missing a ton of talent in Taylor, Springs, and Washington. The Eagles offense may be able to take advantage. Jon Jansen will start at right tackle.
Stephon Heyer, OL Friday 10/3, 1:59 PM CT
Redskins tackle Stephon Heyer did not practice Friday and it is unlikely he will be able to play in the team's Week 5 contest against the Eagles, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Heyer is dealing with a sore shoulder, and he did not play Week 4, either. Heyer was the team's starting right tackle coming out of training camp, beating out Jon Jansen for the job, but Jansen took his place last week and performed well.
Shawn Springs, CB Friday 10/3, 1:56 PM CT
Washington cornerback Shawn Springs did not practice at all this week, but still may play on Sunday, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Springs strained his calf during the team's victory over the Cowboys. He will be a game-time decision.
Malcolm Kelly, WR Friday 10/3, 1:54 PM CT
Redskins rookie wideout Malcolm Kelly will not play Week 5, and instead will be put on the inactive list, according to the Washington Post. "He's getting better, but I'm going to deactivate him, I can tell you that right now," said Redskins head coach Jim Zorn.

Our View: For a player who was touted as possibly being a high first-round draft pick, Kelly has not delivered, and has only one catch for six yards on the year.
Malcolm Kelly, WR Thursday 10/2, 6:08 PM CT
Malcolm Kelly fully practiced for the second straight day Thursday, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Coach Jim Zorn indicated he will be fine to go Sunday, but is not sure if he will be active. Even if he does play, he is not expected to make an impact against a solid Eagles' secondary.
Shawn Springs, CB Thursday 10/2, 5:16 PM CT
Shawn Springs missed Thursday's practice due to a strained calf muscle and he is likely to miss Week 5 at Philadelphia, according to the AP.

Our View: This is unfortunate if he cannot go against the Eagles' high-flying offense as he is the Redskins' best cornerback.
Chris Horton, S Thursday 10/2, 1:35 PM CT
Redskins safety Chris Horton won the NFC's Defensive Player of the Month for September, and now he can add the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Month to his list of accomplishments, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Horton, a seventh-round selection, has three interceptions and a forced fumble on the season.
Chris Horton, S Thursday 10/2, 11:37 AM CT
Redskins rookie seventh-round pick, safety Chris Horton, has won the NFC's Defensive Player of the Month award for September, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Horton amassed 10 tackles, intercepted three passes and recovered one fumble in September to win the award. Two of those picks and the fumble recovery came in Week 2.
Shawn Springs, CB Wednesday 10/1, 3:55 PM CT
Shawn Springs was unable to practice Wednesday due to his strained calf, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Springs expects to play with a little rest this week. This is good news as the Redskins cannot afford to be without their top cornerback in a crucial divisional battle against the high-flying Eagles' offense.
Andre Carter, DE Wednesday 10/1, 3:48 PM CT
Andre Carter was excused from Wednesday's practice to attend to an undisclosed personal issue, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Coach Jim Zorn is hoping he will be ready to return Thursday, but there is a chance he will be excused for another day.
Malcolm Kelly, WR Wednesday 10/1, 3:45 PM CT
Malcolm Kelly was able to complete a full practice Wednesday, but his ankle was still heavily taped, according to the Washington Post. Coach Jim Zorn said, "I was excited about that and he was excited about that."

Our View: If he is cleared to play Sunday, he is not likely ready to make a solid contribution.
Jason Taylor, DE Wednesday 10/1, 3:40 PM CT
Jason Taylor did some jogging Wednesday and took part in individual drills, according to the Washington Post. He continues to get treatment in his recovery from surgery to relieve compartment syndrome in his calf.

Our View: Taylor wants to play Sunday, but Zorn believes it may be too soon for him to return. We will keep you posted on his status.
