Brian Westbrook, RB Wednesday 9/8, 10:26 PM CT
Coach Mike Singletary said Brian Westbrook (hamstring) will be available week one, according to Phil Barber of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View: A hamstring ailment cost Westbrook the preseason finale, and he's barely taken any reps in San Francisco's offense since signing August 16. Westbrook looks like a great change-of-pace back, but rookie Anthony Dixon has probably become the smarter handcuff for Frank Gore.
Jarrett Brown, QB Wednesday 9/8, 4:07 PM CT
Jarrett Brown has been released from the 49ers practice squad, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.

Our View: Brown, a rookie out of West Virginia, was signed to the swuad on September 5, but his stay lasted only three days. He was replaced by Niners vet and fellow QB Nate Davis.
Nate Davis, QB Wednesday 9/8, 4:05 PM CT
Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports Nate Davis has signed with the 49ers practice squad.

Our View: Rookie quarterback Jarrett Brown was released today, and Davis was brought back in to fill his spot. Davis was released September 6 after San Francisco signed Troy Smith, but he garnered no interest on waivers and will spend the season as a developmental guy, again.
Nate Davis, QB Monday 9/6, 7:18 PM CT
Mindi Bach of CSN Bay Area has confirmed that the 49ers have released quarterback Nate Davis.

Our View: Expect San Francisco to now go searching for a veteran to back-up Alex Smith and David Carr. As for Davis, he may have blown the best chance he was ever going to get this summer.
Nate Davis, QB Monday 9/6, 6:32 PM CT
According to Michael Lombardi of NFL.com, Nate Davis is set to be released by the San Francisco 49ers.

Our View: A huge disappointment for the former Ball State quarterback, as it appeared over the weekend that he had made the team. Alex Smith's job just got a little more secure.
Michael Robinson, RB Sunday 9/5, 5:28 PM CT
The Seahawks have signed Michael Robinson, according to Scout.com's Brian McIntyre.

Our View: The former Penn State quarterback should be able to help out on special teams for the Seahawks. Still, his role on offense will be minimal.
Jarrett Brown, QB Sunday 9/5, 1:49 PM CT
Jarrett Brown was signed to the 49ers practice squad, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.

Our View: Brown joins fullback Jehuu Caulcrick, linebacker Bruce Davis, receiver Kevin Jurovich, tackle Matt Kopa, linebacker Keaton Kristick, safety Chris Maragos and defensive lineman Will Tukuafu on the practice squad.
Matt Wilhelm, LB Friday 9/3, 4:19 PM CT
The 49ers have released veteran linebacker Matt Wilhelm, according to CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.

Our View: Twenty-nine years old, he is still just two years removed from a 97-tackle season with the Chargers. However, he was slowed by injury in 2009, and never seemed likely to contribute outside of special teams for the 49ers in 2010.
Jason Hill, WR Friday 9/3, 1:41 PM CT
The 49ers have released Jason Hill, according to CSN's Matt Maiocco.

Our View: Hill had a chance to earn a role as the No. 3 receiver but was unable to take advantage of it. Dominique Zeigler beat him out.
Michael Robinson, RB Friday 9/3, 1:38 PM CT
The 49ers have released Michael Robinson, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View: The former Penn State quarterback has been a special teamer for the 49ers for the past few seasons but was never able to carve out a role for himself on offense. Karl Paymah and Jason Hill were also released.
Ted Ginn, WR Thursday 9/2, 12:21 PM CT
Ted Ginn will be a part of the 49ers' final 53-man roster this weekend, according to CSN's Matt Maiocco.

Our View: Not only has the disappointing Ginn locked up a roster spot, but apparently San Francisco's number three receiving job. You could do worse picking a late-round dark-horse receiver in deeper PPR leagues.
Nate Davis, QB Thursday 9/2, 12:19 PM CT
According to CSN's Matt Maiocco, quarterback Nate Davis is expected to survive the 49ers' final round of cuts this weekend.

Our View: As has been expected all along. If Alex Smith again struggles this year, Davis could get some late season starts.
Michael Crabtree, WR Thursday 9/2, 10:14 AM CT
According to the San Jose Mercury-News, there is "team-wide frustration over Michael Crabtree's nearly invisible practice and exhibition-game presence" this summer.

Our View: Dealing with a "tweaked" neck, he has been limited for the entirety of 49ers training camp. He is expected to be ready to go in Week 1, however.
Michael Crabtree, WR Wednesday 9/1, 5:06 PM CT
Jim Trotter of Sports Illustrated reports that teammates have been turned off by Michael Crabtree's attitude this offseason.

Our View: Trotter said the players don't like Crabtree's "ambivalence" toward the preseason and training camp. Apparently the rest of the roster was happy that Vernon Davis called Crabtree out, and their "verbal dust-up" was welcomed. Still, Crabtree's the most talented wideout on this team, and he'll produce on the field, even if he's got some off-field issues to work on.
Michael Crabtree, WR Wednesday 9/1, 8:40 AM CT
Michael Crabtree (neck) practiced at full speed yesterday, according to CSN Bay Area.

Our View: Crabtree's neck had been bothering him the past few weeks, but it sounds like it will not be an issue entering the season. Draft him with confidence as somewhat risky but high-upside No. 2 receiver.
