Shawne Merriman, LB Wednesday 9/8, 4:32 PM CT
According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Shawne Merriman (Achilles) was back at practice Wednesday.

Our View: As recently as last weekend, Merriman's status for week one was unclear. There's still no guarantee that he'll now play, but his presence at practice is encouraging. Of course, he may never again be as good as he once wa.
Brandon Hughes, CB Tuesday 9/7, 4:45 PM CT
Brandon Hughes has been waived by the San Diego Chargers, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: A second-year player, he missed all of his rookie season last year after suffering a serious knee injury near the end of training camp. He's very unlikely to make his NFL debut in 2010.
Vincent Jackson, WR Monday 9/6, 7:25 PM CT
The San Diego Union-Tribune has confirmed that the Chargers scuttled a potential trade of disgruntled wide receiver Vincent Jackson over the weekend.

Our View: San Diego continues to refuse to lower its asking price for Jackson, even though he's worth nothing to them holding out. Expect a deal to occur sometime in the next 10 days.
Jeremy Williams, WR Monday 9/6, 1:26 PM CT
The Eagles have signed Jeremy Williams to their practice squad, according to CSN Philly.

Our View: Williams was released by the Chargers on Saturday. Tight end Garrett Mills was signed as well.
Shawne Merriman, LB Sunday 9/5, 8:08 PM CT
Shawne Merriman's status for Week 1 in unclear due to an Achilles injury, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: The Chargers are also concerned that he'll never be the defensive force that he once was. We should be hearing more about Merriman's Week 1 status as next week progresses.
Seyi Ajirotutu, WR Sunday 9/5, 3:30 PM CT
Seyi Ajirotutu has been signed to the Chargers practice squad, according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribue.

Our View: Ajortutu had his moments in camp, but he's a developmental guy with major upside and nothing more right now. He'll be joined on a talented practice squad by running back Curtis Brinkley, receiver Richard Goodman, quarterback Jonathon Crompton, tight end Dedrick Epps, guard Jeff Hansen, offensive tackle Nic Richmond and ILB Kion Wilson.
Nathan Vasher, CB Saturday 9/4, 3:06 PM CT
The Chargers have released Nathan Vasher, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: Vasher has fallen a log way since his All-Pro days with the Bears. Still, his name alone could be enough to land him a chance with another team.
Jonathan Crompton, QB Saturday 9/4, 3:05 PM CT
The Chargers have released Jonathan Crompton, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: The Chargers have decided the enter the season with only two quarterbacks, Philip Rivers and Billy Volek. Crompton may be added to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
Vincent Jackson, WR Saturday 9/4, 1:51 PM CT
The Rams may still be in the mix to trade for Vincent Jackson, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: The Chargers have been stubborn in considering offers for Jackson, but you have to believe they'd be willing to listen if a legitimate offer was extended. Laurent Robinson is currently the Rams' No. 1 receiver, and getting a guy like Jackson could do wonders for No. 1 pick Sam Bradford's development.
Josh Reed, WR Saturday 9/4, 12:04 PM CT
The Chargers have released Josh Reed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View: This does not come as much of a surprise following the team's acquisition of Patrick Crayton yesterday. Reed does not possess great speed or size but could get a look from a team in need of a veteran possession receiver.
Vincent Jackson, WR Thursday 9/2, 5:18 PM CT
According to Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Seahawks are apparently looking to trade TJ Houshmandzadeh in order to clear salary space for Vincent Jackson.

Our View: There's very little chance that the 'Hawks will find a willing trade partner for Housh and his $7 million guaranteed salary, but it's a nice idea. It seems like their best bet would be to release TJH and just pay him the money anyway. Of course, they'd still have to work out a deal for Jackson, and the Chargers have been stubborn. Stay tuned.
Vincent Jackson, WR Thursday 9/2, 10:34 AM CT
According to Yahoo! Sports' Michael Silver, the Chargers are seeking both a second and third round pick in exchange for disgruntled wide receiver Vincent Jackson.

Our View: They are looking for a 2011 second round pick and 2012 third round pick. Although a steep price, it's hard to believe a receiver-starved contender (perhaps Minnesota) won't soon be willing to pay it.
