Terrence Kiel, S Saturday 7/5, 7:19 AM CT
Safety Terrence Kiel died late Saturday night when he was thrown from a car he was driving, the AP reports. The 27-year-old former Chargers player hit a wall in a San Diego neighborhood, and he died about an hour after the paramedics reached him. Friends had reportedly tried to stop Kiel from driving home from the party. Kiel was a second-round draft pick in 2003 and released in March of 2007.

Our View:Our hearts go out to Kiel's family.
Jamal Williams, DT Thursday 7/3, 11:36 PM CT
According to NFLDraftScout.com, the 2008 supplemental draft, which had tentatively been scheduled for next week, has been cancelled. "No one applied at the time of the deadline," 49ers general manager Scot McCloughan confirmed Thursday. The NFL sent out a memo to all 32 teams informing them of the announcement Wednesday. Nine players have been selected in the supplemental draft over the past decade, including Chargers Pro Bowl nose guard Jamal Williams.

Our View:There have been several articles recently that mentioned Southern California middle linebacker Rey Maualuga, Oklahoma State tight Brandon Pettigrew and Mississippi State offensive tackle Michael Brown as candidates for the draft.
Steve Foley, LB Wednesday 7/2, 5:56 PM CT
San Diego linebacker Steve Foley has agreed to settle his lawsuit against a police officer who shot him while working in an off-duty capacity two years ago, an event that essentially ended Foley's professional football career, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Foley attorney Harvey Levine says the settlement was reached with Officer Aaron Mansker and his employer, the city of Coronado, on Wednesday before testimony resumed in the week-old civil trial, though the financial terms are confidential. The player was shot in his leg, hip and hand in September 2006 after Mansker followed his car home on suspicion the driver was drunk. Foley pleaded guilty in 2007 to misdemeanor drunken driving.
