Jeremy Shockey, TE Friday 10/10, 2:11 PM CT
The return of tight end Jeremy Shockey to the Saints this week does not look like it is going to happen, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View: Shockey did not practice on Friday, as he is just two weeks removed from sports hernia surgery. Look for him to have a much better chance of playing Week 7.
Marques Colston, WR Friday 10/10, 1:27 PM CT
Saints wideout Marques Colston will be on the field and active for the team's Week 6 contest against the Oakland Raiders, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View: Colston had been out with torn ligaments in his thumb. Clearly, this is a boon for fantasy owners. Despite the hype about the Raiders' pass defense, they allow 233 receiving yards per game, which is 21st in the league.
Marques Colston, WR Thursday 10/9, 3:30 PM CT
Marques Colston, who is recovering from a thumb injury, had limited participation in practice for the second straight day Thursday, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View: There is a chance he could return this weekend to challenge the Raiders' 18th ranked pass defense.
Marques Colston, WR Wednesday 10/8, 8:04 PM CT
Marques Colston returned to practice on Wednesday according to the Times-Picayune. He was catching balls with only a small amount of padding on his surgically-repaired thumb. If he feels comfortable catching the ball, he should definitely be able to go for Week 6.

Our View: Expect Colston to return with a fury once he gets back on the field. Quarterback Drew Brees has made due without him for four weeks, but is certainly looking forward to working with his primary target once again.
Jeremy Shockey, TE Wednesday 10/8, 7:59 PM CT
Jeremy Shockey returned to practice on Wednesday. The New Orleans Times-Picayune says he should still be considered questionable for Sunday's game against Oakland, but coach Sean Payton said he was more optimistic than earlier in the week.

Our View: It's certainly looking up for Shockey and we should have a better idea of his availability by Friday. If he can not go this week, he seems a lock to play in Week 7.
Taylor Mehlhaff, K Wednesday 10/8, 2:33 PM CT
As expected, Taylor Mehlhaff has been re-signed by the Saints, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Our View: Mehlhaff is worth targeting as he will be working in a high-scoring offense, and has the luxury of playing his home games in a dome.
Martin Gramatica, K Wednesday 10/8, 2:30 PM CT
Martin Gramatica has been placed on IR by the Saints due to an apparent groin injury, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. The team brought back rookie Taylor Mehlhaff to take over the placekicking job.

Our View: Gramatica only made 6-of-10 field goal attempts this season, and missed a crucial attempt in Monday's close loss to Minnesota.
Taylor Mehlhaff, K Wednesday 10/8, 12:54 PM CT
Taylor Mehlhaff told the Aberdeen News that he will re-sign with the Saints pending a physical Wednesday.

Our View: The rookie was beaten by Martin Gramatica for the placekicking job at the start of the season, but Gramatica is reportedly on his way out after missing a crucial field goal attempt in Monday's close loss to Minnesota. Mehlhaff would garner fantasy consideration while working in the Saints' high-scoring offense.
Martin Gramatica, K Tuesday 10/7, 8:42 PM CT
In Monday night's loss to the Vikings, Martin Gramatica missed a possible game-winning field goal in the fourth quarter. On Tuesday, head coach Sean Payton told the New Orleans Times-Picayune, "I don't think we're in a position where we're going to bring in kickers for tryouts, because we've got a pretty good idea of who's available. I'm not sure if Martin is 100-percent healthy right now, let alone whether he's my guy. So we'll see."

Our View: The quotes from Payton are not exactly a vote of confidence for the kicker. Gramatica has missed on 4-of-10 attempts this year and if he misses many more chances he might be looking for a job.
Tracy Porter, CB Tuesday 10/7, 4:49 PM CT
Saints rookie defensive back Tracy Porter underwent surgery to repair his injured wrist and now has been placed on IR, according to the AP.

Our View: With the move to the IR, Porter is done for the season. With the loss of the rookie, the Saints pass defense will take a big hit. Porter has been one of the best cover corners so far in 2008.
Tracy Porter, CB Tuesday 10/7, 1:58 PM CT
Saints rookie cornerback Tracy Porter suffered a dislocated wrist on Monday, and needed surgery to repair the damage, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View: Saints Coach Sean Payton declined to say how long Porter, the team's second-round selection, would be out of action.
Josh Savage, DE Tuesday 10/7, 8:30 AM CT
Saints defensive end Josh Savage was waived by the team, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View: Savage was on the practice squad early in the season before being promoted. If he is not claimed, it is possible the Saints will re-sign him.
Joey Harrington, QB Tuesday 10/7, 8:28 AM CT
Less than a week after signing with the team, the New Orleans Saints released quarterback Joey Harrington, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View: Harrington was released in order to make room on the roster for players who might actually be used. He had no fantasy value before this, and won't have any if he gets signed to another team.
Devery Henderson, WR Monday 10/6, 11:52 PM CT
Devery Henderson caught four passes for 104 yards including a 17 yard touchdown in the first quarter on Monday night.

Our View: Henderson entered the game with only six receptions and 213 yards all season so tonight's effort came as a bit of a surprise. Still, with all the health concerns of receivers on the Saints squad, it was nice to see him step up and give the type of performance that certainly resides in his talented body.
Reggie Bush, RB Monday 10/6, 11:48 PM CT
Reggie Bush tied an NFL record, set 11 times previously, with two punt returns for touchdowns - one covering 71 yards, the other 64 yards - in the Saints 30-27 loss to the Vikings. Bush also carried the ball 12 times for just 29 yards while losing a fumble though he did haul in seven passes for 64 yards though he also lost a fumble in the passing game as well.

Our View: Typical Bush. The guy was all over the field doing pretty much everything other than kicking field goals. One of the fumbles came after a face mask that wasn't called but he still rushed for a paltry 29 yards. None of that matters if you are in a PPR league as he continues to rack up receptions as if he was Marques Colston. The guy may have his faults, but he can be breathtaking to watch in full flight.
Deuce McAllister, RB Monday 10/6, 11:38 PM CT
Deuce McAllister rushed a paltry six times on Monday night for an equally poor total of just 13 yards for the Saints.

Our View: So much for a follow up effort after last week's 20 carry, 73 yard effort against the 49ers. With Reggie Bush dominating the ball with 19 touches Deuce was left with little to do on this night.
Drew Brees, QB Monday 10/6, 11:32 PM CT
Drew Brees completed 26 of 46 passes for 330 yards and a touchdown though he was also saddled with two interceptions (one went right through the hands of Lance Moore).

Our View: That's 1,673 yards and counting for Brees who is on pace to rack up a sick total of 5,354 yards which would demolish the single season record of 5,084 yards set by Dan Marino back in 1984. Just imagine what he'll do once his top target, Marques Colston, returns.
Marques Colston, WR Monday 10/6, 6:54 PM CT
The following players are inactive for the Saints in their Monday Night Matchup with the Vikings, according to Saints Official Website. The players are as follows: FB Olaniyi Sobomehin, DT Sedrick Ellis, CB Aaron Glenn, WR Marques Colston, WR David Patten, T Jermon Bushrod, TE Jeremy Shockey and S Chris Reis.

Our View: With Colston, Patten and Shockey on the sidelines, Drew Brees will be forced to rely heavily on the likes of Devery Henderson and Lance Moore to help stretch the Vikings defense.
Remi Ayodele, DT Sunday 10/5, 11:07 PM CT
Remi Ayodele was activated from the Saints practice squad to the 53-man active roster, according to NFL.com.

Our View: Ayodele will add some depth to the Saints defensive line.
Marques Colston, WR Sunday 10/5, 7:52 AM CT
The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports Colston (thumb) will have his cast removed next week and could return in Week 8.

Our View: Drew Brees has been able to survive just fine without Colston. The possible October 26 return for Colston is right in line with his stated timetable following surgery on his thumb.
Aaron Glenn, CB Saturday 10/4, 7:54 AM CT
Aaron Glenn has been ruled out for Monday's game due to a strained ligament in his ankle. It will be the third straight game that he's missed.

Our View: Glenn doesn't start anymore, so he's not a fantasy option, but the Saints could use the depth.
Sedrick Ellis, DT Friday 10/3, 12:53 PM CT
Saints rookie defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis, the seventh overall pick in the draft, will be out 2-4 weeks after having surgery on his right knee to repair a medial meniscus tear, according to the AP.

Our View: Ellis tore cartilage in the same knee in 2006 while he was with USC and also had fluid drained from the knee in 2007. Having problems with the knee three years in a row is a bit unsettling.
David Patten, WR Thursday 10/2, 5:39 PM CT
David Patten has been ruled out for Monday's battle against the Vikings, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View: With Patten out, expect Lance Moore and Robert Meachem to once again carry the Saints' receiving corps.
Sedrick Ellis, DT Thursday 10/2, 2:43 PM CT
Saints first-round pick, defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis, had to leave the team's practice because of "clicking" in his right knee, according to the AP.

Our View: Ellis is going to have the knee examined to determine what the problem is. We will keep you updated when more information is known.
Drew Brees, QB Thursday 10/2, 1:10 PM CT
New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees has won the NFC's Offensive Player of the Month award for his work in September, according to ESPN.com.

Our View: Brees completed 72.3 percent of his passes while throwing for 1,343 yards and eight touchdowns to go with four interceptions.
Deuce McAllister, RB Wednesday 10/1, 3:14 PM CT
Deuce McAllister fully practiced Wednesday and said he felt fine after a 20-carry workload in Week 4, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View: He had no swelling in his surgically-repaired knee, just the normal soreness. He has a tough match-up against Minnesota in Week 5, but rookie Chris Johnson did manage to score twice against them last weekend.
David Patten, WR Wednesday 10/1, 3:10 PM CT
David Patten missed Wednesday's practice due to his groin injury, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View: If Patten is unable to go in Monday night's battle against Minnesota, expect Lance Moore and Robert Meachem to once again carry the receiving corps.
Buck Ortega, TE Wednesday 10/1, 1:11 PM CT
Buck Ortega has once again been waived by the Saints, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View: He cleared waivers and has returned to the practice squad. He was released to make room for Joey Harrington on the 53-man roster.
