Brees, Tomlinson share Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award Miami, FL (The Sports Network) - New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and
San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson were named co-winners of
the Walter Payton Man of the Year award on Friday.
Brees passed for an NFL-best 4,418 yards and led the NFC with 26 touchdown
passes and a 96.2 passer rating as the Saints won their first division title
in six years.
Off the field, he helped in the rebuilding efforts in New Orleans following

Charles Grant has been sued for $5 million for his involvement in a fight that led to the shooting death of Korynda Reed, who was pregnant, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Our View:Grant was indicted on involuntary manslaughter charges in the incident but has maintained his innocence. A trial date has not been set.
With free safety Josh Bullocks out for organized team activities while on the mend from knee surgery, Kevin Kaesviharn has moved ahead in the race to become the team’s starting free safety, according to Pro Football Weekly.
Our View:Kaesviharn started three games last season, his first with New Orleans, but team insiders say he looks like the more dependable option at this point and is penciled in as the starter next to SS Roman Harper. Bullocks is the incumbent at the position and has started 43 of the 46 games he has played in during his three seasons in the league, but his performance has been inconsistent, particularly in coverage.
First-round draft pick Sedrick Ellis is not expecting to sign a contract as quickly as some of the players picked ahead of him in the draft this spring, according to USA Today. "I don't even think there's been any discussions," Ellis said recently.
Our View:Ellis said he doubted that negotiations will begin until July, which is when the Saints typically start signing their draft picks, and will wait to see what type of deal defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, the fifth pick, gets from the Kansas City Chiefs.
