Billy Yates, G Monday 9/6, 10:22 PM CT
Billy Yates has been waived by the Cleveland Browns, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.

Our View: He'll be replaced on the roster by former Seahawk Steve Vallos. A career back-up, he should be able to latch on somewhere else.
Jerome Harrison, RB Monday 9/6, 10:31 AM CT
Browns head coach Eric Mangini said that he expects Jerome Harrison to seize the opportunity to be the Browns' No. 1 running back, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot.

Our View: Take this news for what it's worth, though there is something to be said about having the confidence of your head coach. With Montario Hardesty out for the season, Harrison is the Browns' clear-cut top back, though Peyton Hillis and James Davis could figure into the mix in some fashion as well.
Clifton Geathers, DE Sunday 9/5, 2:55 PM CT
Clifton Geathers was claimed off waivers by the Dolphins, according to Pro Football Talk.

Our View: At 6-foot-9, 280 pounds with sub 5.00 speed in the 40-yard dash, Geathers is a mountain of potential. Of course, he's also got some work to do to realize it. He'll be the fifth defensive end in Miami's 3-4 system.
Chris Jennings, RB Saturday 9/4, 10:55 PM CT
Chris Jennings hast not made the Browns' final 53-man roster.

Our View: Even with Montario Hardesty out for the year he couldn't make the team. That doesn't bode well for his NFL future.
Clifton Geathers, DE Saturday 9/4, 10:48 PM CT
Clifton Geathers has been released by the Cleveland Browns.

Our View: After signing a four-year contract in July, he just didn't show enough in training camp to warrant a roster spot. An elite, if raw, physical talent, his career is likely far from over.
Brett Ratliff, QB Saturday 9/4, 8:22 PM CT
Quarterback Brett Ratliff was among the Browns players released on Saturday, according to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post.

Our View: Going up against 2010 third round pick Colt McCoy for his roster spot, he simply would have had to be brilliant to make the team this summer. Expect Cleveland to try to stash him on its practice squad.
Colt McCoy, QB Saturday 9/4, 8:19 PM CT
Colt McCoy has made the Browns final 53-man roster, according to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora.

Our View: Even before his electrifying showing on Thursday night, he was never expected to be cut. He won't get on the field this year, but could have a real shot at doing so in 2011.
Peyton Hillis, RB Saturday 9/4, 9:12 AM CT
Peyton Hillis figures to see an expanded workload following Montario Hardesty's placement on the injured reserve, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View: Hillis and James Davis will back up Jerome Harrison. Hillis figures to see plenty of work around the red zone, though it remains to be seen how much time the Browns will be spending in that area of the field.
Montario Hardesty, RB Friday 9/3, 11:09 AM CT
Further tests have confirmed that Montario Hardesty has a torn ACL in his left knee, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View: He'll miss the entire 2010 season as a result. This comes a a major blow to the rookie, especially when you consider that Jerome Harrison has struggled throughout the preseason. James Davis now figures to back up Harrison, though Peyton Hillis will be in the mix as well.
Montario Hardesty, RB Friday 9/3, 10:26 AM CT
The early diagnosis on Montario Hardesty is that he's suffered a torn ACL in his left knee, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View: He'll undergo more exams today just to make sure, but his status appears bleak. Assuming he does in fact have a torn ACL, he'll be out for the entire 2010 season. Such news would serve as a boost to Jerome Harrison's fantasy value and give James Davis value as a handcuff to Harrison.
James Davis, RB Friday 9/3, 8:23 AM CT
James Davis, who gained 66 yards off 15 rushes last night, tweaked his ankle at the end of the game, according to the Canton Repository.

Our View: Luckily, the ailment does not sound very serious at all. With Montario Hardesty having missed most of training camp with a right knee injury and hurting his left knee yesterday, Davis could open the season as the Browns' No. 2 running back behind Jerome Harrison.
Montario Hardesty, RB Friday 9/3, 8:17 AM CT
The Cleveland Plain Dealer notes that Montario Hardesty had an arthroscopic procedure in 2006 on his left knee, the same knee that he injured last night.

Our View: His right knee's history is even worse; he suffered a torn ACL in that one in 2005, and was sidelined throughout most of the preseason due to a bone bruise in that knee. Things are not looking good for Hardesty right now, and it's looking like James Davis could be backing up Jerome Harrison for the first few weeks of the regular season.
Montario Hardesty, RB Thursday 9/2, 10:16 PM CT
Updating an earlier item, Montario Hardesty was seen using crutches and wearing a knee brace on his left knee after leaving Thursday's preseason game, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View: Like we said earlier, at least it's not the same knee that sidelined him during all of training camp. Still, there's no word on the severity, and the extra gear isn't a good sign. Hardesty looked strong in the preseason finale, and his loss would be a big blow to the Browns offense.
Montario Hardesty, RB Thursday 9/2, 8:20 PM CT
According to the Associated Press, Montario Hardesty left Thursday's preseason finale with an apparent left knee injury.

Our View: Hardesty missed all of training camp with a bone bruise in his right knee, so at least it's not a re-aggravation. Still, he stayed on the ground for several minutes before being helped to the locker room by trainers. Stay tuned.
D'Qwell Jackson, LB Thursday 9/2, 6:54 PM CT
According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, a source is reporting that D'Qwell Jackson (pectoral) could be ready by week two or three.

Our View: Jackson's in a contract year, so he should put up great production once he's healthy. We'd bet on week three over week two, but he's a heck of a bargain in IDP leagues right now.
Colt McCoy, QB Thursday 9/2, 10:47 AM CT
Colt McCoy will not be among the Browns' final cuts this weekend, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.

Our View: Speculation has run rampant in recent weeks that he could be cut, but Mike Holmgren is not the type to pull the plug on a third round draft pick, particularly a quarterback, after one disappointing camp. He's going to have to vastly improve between now and next summer, but his roster spot is safe until at least next training camp.
