D.J. Hackett, WR Saturday 9/6, 9:32 AM CT
D.J. Hackett, who had been dealing with a toe injury, is likely to start Sunday's game against the Chargers, according to the Gaston Gazette. Muhsin Muhammad will be the other starter, with Dwayne Jarrett working as the No. 3.

Our View: Hackett looks to start, but ranks as an unfavorable fantasy option against the Chargers on their home turf.
DeAngelo Williams, RB Saturday 9/6, 9:27 AM CT
Steve Reed of the Gaston Gazette expects DeAngelo Williams to start Sunday's game against San Diego, and for rookie Jonathan Stewart to reach double digits in carries.

Our View: Williams enjoyed a strong training camp and preseason and is the preferred Panthers' back to employ in Week 1 against San Diego.
Ryne Robinson, WR Friday 9/5, 5:44 PM CT
Panthers Ryne Robinson sprained his MCL and PCL at the beginning of August and is not expected to play in week one.
Nick Goings, RB Friday 9/5, 5:42 PM CT
Carolina Panthers Nick Goings fully participated in practice despite an injured hand is expected to play in week one, according to CarolinaGrowl.com,
Jason Carter, WR Friday 9/5, 2:41 PM CT
Jason Carter was placed on the IR in late August after he tore his ACL fielding a punt. The injury has ended his 2008 season.
Steve Smith, WR Friday 9/5, 2:29 PM CT
Steve Smith is experiencing lingering pain in his shoulder and may need to undergo surgery following the season, according to the Rock Hill Herald. He sustained the injury in the preseason game against the Redskins and said, "I’m not sure what we’ll do at the end of season. I’ll talk to more than one doctor to get a fair assessment on the best procedure to minimize that pain that I have on a day-to-day basis. It really doesn’t concern me too much. I’ll play this season."

Our View: Smith has a two-week rest for the ailment to get better due to his suspension.
Matt Moore, QB Thursday 9/4, 9:46 AM CT
Panthers quarterback Matt Moore will be out 4-6 weeks with a broken fibula, but he is only wearing a walking cast and will not be placed on injured reserve, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Our View: Moore was the backup to Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme, so his absence should not affect fantasy owners.
Brett Basanez, QB Wednesday 9/3, 6:18 PM CT
The Panthers re-signed Brett Basanez to the practice squad Wednesday afternoon and released defensive end Angelo Craig, this according to the AP.

Our View: The team signed Basanez as insurance for backup Matt Moore who aggravated a a leg injury (broken fibula) suffered in the team's final preseason game. Moore hasn't been placed on IR, but is out indefinitely.
Matt Moore, QB Wednesday 9/3, 6:13 PM CT
According to the AP, backup quarterback Matt Moore did suffer a fracture in his left leg in the team's final preseason game. The Panthers' backup signal-caller had two X-rays and an MRI that revealed no broken bones. However, Moore attempted to push off on his leg during practice today and felt something pop. X-rays revealed a broken fibula, and Moore is out indefinitely. "He had gone out with the trainers and felt good (Tuesday)," general manager Marty Hurney said. "But something happened at practice. Hopefully he'll be back as quick as he can."

Our View: Moore will not be placed on injured reserve, yet, and as insurance the team re-signed Brett Basanez to the practice squad Wednesday.
Chris Harris, S Tuesday 9/2, 1:04 PM CT
Chris Harris is expected to practice when the Panthers resume work on Wednesday, according to the Charlotte Observer. He has missed three weeks due to a groin injury.

Our View: Harris previously said he would definitely be ready to play in Week 1, but coach John Fox is yet to give him the green light. If healthy, he would rank as a top-12 defensive back for IDP leagues.
D.J. Hackett, WR Tuesday 9/2, 1:01 PM CT
D.J. Hackett, who is recovering from a toe injury, is expected to practice Wednesday, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Our View: This is encouraging news, but Coach John Fox is yet to indicate if Hackett will play in Week 1.
Titus Ryan, WR Tuesday 9/2, 10:07 AM CT
Titus Ryan has been added to the Panthers' practice squad after being let go by the Saints, according to the Gaston Gazette. Defensive end Angelo Craig and fullback Billy Latsko were also added to the practice team.

Our View: The Saints waived him to make room for DeMario Pressley on the roster. Ryan did not register a catch as a rookie with the team in 2007, and will hold no fantasy value.
Nick Hayden, DT Monday 9/1, 6:35 PM CT
Sixth-round rookie Nick Hayden has cleared waivers and was signed to the practice squad, according to the Rock Hill Herald.

Our View: Seventh-round pick Geoff Schwartz also cleared waivers and joined the practice squad, allowing the Panthers to retain their entire 2008 draft class. Hayden is tough with a non-stop motor and the club admires his passion for the game. Keeping Hayden nearby was important, since they're still thin on the interior line, with just Gary Gibson and veteran Darwin Walker in reserve.
Mark Jones, WR Monday 9/1, 12:42 PM CT
The Charlotte Panthers have signed Mark Jones to be their kick and punt returner while Ryne Robinson recovers from an injury, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Our View: Jones has no real fantasy value because he does not play offense. His only contribution to fantasy is in the Carolina D/ST unit, though he has never returned any type of kick more than 36 yards.
D.J. Hackett, WR Monday 9/1, 9:15 AM CT
Carolina receiver D.J. Hackett will make his return to practice this week and will play in the Week 1 opener, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Our View: Hackett could have very good fantasy value if he stays healthy, but as they say, that's a big if. He's far too unreliable for fantasy owners to depend on, but stashing him on the back of the roster may not hurt.
