Sergio Kindle, LB Tuesday 9/7, 7:52 PM CT
According to the Carroll County Times, "Baltimore Ravens injured rookie outside linebacker Sergio Kindle (recovery from fractured skull) has completed a series of neurological exams, and he's now awaiting Baltimore doctors' medical opinion on when he can resume playing football again."

Our View: Even if he is cleared this week, he's likely not close to NFL game action. His contributions will be extremely limited during his rookie season.
Demetrius Williams, WR Monday 9/6, 10:55 PM CT
Updating an earlier item, the Baltimore Sun's Jamison Hensley is now reporting that former Ravens receiver Demetrius Williams has just a workout, and not a contract, with the St. Louis Rams.

Our View: He'll get a shot to make the club tomorrow. If he does, he'll be joining former teammate Mark Clayton. Stay tuned.
Troy Smith, QB Monday 9/6, 7:44 PM CT
Fresh off of releasing Nate Davis, the 49ers have signed former Ravens quarterback Troy Smith to a one-year deal, according to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora.

Our View: This may actually end up being a best case scenario for Smith, as few teams are as unsettled at quarterback as San Francisco. It wouldn't be stunning if he was starting sometime in the second half of the season. For now, though, he'll find himself third on the depth chart behind Alex Smith and David Carr.
Terrence Cody, DT Monday 9/6, 5:13 PM CT
According to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post, rookie defensive lineman Terrence Cody (knee) "is still on crutches after arthroscopic knee surgery. He thinks Week 2 is a realistic possibility, (but is) definitely out this week."

Our View: Although he will likely be ready for Week 2, don't be surprised if the Ravens exercise caution and hold him out until Week 3. Expect an update on his condition next Monday or Tuesday.
Demetrius Williams, WR Monday 9/6, 4:52 PM CT
According to Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun, receiver Demetrius Williams is now a member of the St. Louis Rams.

Our View: Hensley's report is according to "Ravens players," but it sounds like Williams will be joining teammate Mark Clayton in Sam Bradford's receiving corps. Stay tuned for official word.
Mark Clayton, WR Monday 9/6, 2:43 PM CT
The Rams have acquired Mark Clayton from the Ravens for late-round considerations, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Our View: The Rams were ailing at receiver after the loss of Donnie Avery. Laurent Robinson still figures to be the team's No. 1 wideout, but Clayton could fill out the No. 2 role before long. Danny Amendola will still likely be the No. 2 guy for Week 1.
Mark Clayton, WR Monday 9/6, 12:14 PM CT
The Ravens are trying to trade Mark Clayton, according to the Carroll County Times' Aaron Wilson.

Our View: This report makes plenty of sense following the team's acquisition of T.J. Houshmandzadeh today. Unfortunately, Clayton is a career underachiever who also has trouble staying healthy, so he doesn't figure to draw much interest. Expect him to be dropped.
Davon Drew, TE Sunday 9/5, 3:04 PM CT
Davon Drew has been signed to the Ravens practice squad, according to Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Drew was a fifth-round pick in 2009, and he's got upside down the road. Still, with the wealth of young talent at tight end in Baltimore, he may never see the field. He'll be joined on the practice squad by receiver Justin Harper, running back Curtis Steele, linebacker Albert McClellan, cornerback Prince Miller, guard Bryan Mattison and offensive tackle Devin Tyler.
Prince Miller, CB Sunday 9/5, 1:44 PM CT
Prince Miller has been signed to the Ravens practice squad, according to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post.

Our View: Miller was waived to make room for corner Bryan McCann, and he cleared before joining the practice squad. McCann will now take over return duties for Baltimore.
Sergio Kindle, LB Sunday 9/5, 8:48 AM CT
According to Pro Football Talk, Sergio Kindle (skull fracture) tweeted "look for ya boy on that field sometime next month!!"

Our View: It's good to see Kindle is doing well in his recovery and that he's confident in his return. Still, the second-round pick doesn't have a contract yet, and it's not known whether the team will receive a roster exemption for him. Still, Kindle looks to have a great shot at seeing the field at some point this season.
Troy Smith, QB Saturday 9/4, 4:38 PM CT
According to the National Football Post's Aaron Wilson, Troy Smith has become the third former Heisman Trophy winner to be released on Saturday.

Our View: Smith has long craved a chance to start, but now looks closer to the third string than first team. His best NFL days are already behind him.
Shayne Graham, K Saturday 9/4, 11:58 AM CT
The Ravens have released Shayne Graham, according to the National Football Post.

Our View: He's the fourth-most accurate kicker in the history of the NFL but was unable to beat out Billy Cundiff in Baltimore. He'll be one of the first names called upon should another team's kicker get hurt or struggle.
Billy Cundiff, K Saturday 9/4, 11:57 AM CT
The Ravens have opted to keep Billy Cundiff as their kicker over Shayne Graham, according to the National Football Post.

Our View: The competition was close, but Cundiff won out in the end. The Ravens' offense is expected to be very solid this season, and thus Cundiff could certainly be a top 10-12 kicker.
Ed Reed, S Friday 9/3, 6:39 PM CT
After much consternation and speculation, the Ravens have deicded to place All-Pro safety Ed Reed (recovery from hip surgery) on the physically unable to perform list, according to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora. The move makes him ineligible to play during the first six weeks of the season.

Our View: This is a move the Ravens obviously did not want to make, but one that makes the most sense for the aging Reed. Although they should be able to get by fine without him, you still need to downgrade their defense until his return, particularly in Week 6 when they will take on the Patriots.
Mark Clayton, WR Wednesday 9/1, 11:14 AM CT
Mark Clayton (concussion) is expected to be active for the Ravens during Week 1, according to the National Football Post.

Our View: Donte Stallworth's injury opens up the No. 3 spot at receiver for Clayton. Still, he doesn't figure to have any fantasy value unless either Anquan Boldin or Derrick Mason get hurt.
